RCHS Athletic Game policies
Reminder to Rush County Schools families:
To increase safety at our high school sporting events this year, students in grades K-8 must be accompanied and supervised by an adult (aged 18+) to enter the event. This practice remains in place due to an uptick in incidences involving unsupervised K-8 students. Students without chaperones will not be admitted.
Thank you for doing your part to keep our students safe!
Car Rider Procedures
Please note some important information regarding Car Rider procedures:
Regular or Everyday Car Riders
“Regular or Everyday Car Riders” will be assigned a single number per family, i.e., a family with multiple children will be assigned a single number. This number will be used to page student(s) from within the building via walkie-talkie by a staff member outside of the building. How do I register for a Car Rider Number?
Complete the"Car Rider Registration Form"
Email Mrs. Metcalf, assistant principal, with any questions. (metcalfc@rushville.k12.in.us)
Upon receiving your completed form, a Car Rider Number will be assigned and a tag created. The tag will then be sent home with the student or distributed directly to the parent during Car Rider Dismissal. Families will receive two car rider vehicle tags.
Note: All parents with students who are "Regular or Everyday Car Riders" will need to submit a form this year, even if they have registered in previous years. All parents will receive a new car rider number for the school year. If you have completed the car rider registration link this school year or signed up at our Back To School Night, then you are registered. Your student would have a backpack tag attached at school. If your student did not receive a backpack tag, then you are not signed up and must register. Registered car riders and vehicle tags ensure a smooth, safe, and timely dismissal.
*Please be mindful that there are over 300 students that are car riders for dismissal. Staff members are trying their best to ensure that students are released to their families as quickly and safely as possible. Having your car tag number visible and hanging from the mirror facing staff can assist with the promptness of dismissal.
Car rider procedures:
Car riders should exit the car on the passenger side.
Parents/Guardians are not permitted to walk students to the door.
Students should exit the car only when directed by a member of the Rushville Elementary staff.
Drivers should NOT move forward until directed to do so by RES staff.
Drivers should also refrain from talking on the phone while in the pickup line. Our students’ safety is of the utmost importance.
Additionally, our campus is a tobacco free zone and we ask that you do not smoke while waiting to drop off or pick up your students.
Thank you,
Mrs. Metcalf
Assistant Principal
Early Student Pickup
Parents needing to pick up a student at 2:15 or later cannot pick up in the front parking lot due to buses. On Wednesday this time will be 1:45. You will have to be in the back car line or make prior arrangements. Please do not use the front lot after 2:25 or on Wednesday's after 1:45.
Attendance Policy Changes for the Upcoming School Year
As we begin the new school year, we want to remind families of our updated attendance policy. Students will continue to be allowed eight (8) excused absences throughout the school year. These excused absences include parent call-ins and prearranged absences.
If your child will be absent, please be sure to call the school by 9:00 AM to report the absence.
Additionally, as in previous years, if your child has a medical or dental appointment, please provide a note from the healthcare provider, and the absence will be excused accordingly. If a note is provided, healthcare appointments will not count towards the 8 excused absence total.
Regular attendance is essential for student success, and we appreciate your continued partnership in supporting your child’s education. Please refer to the Rushville Elementary Student Handbook for additional attendance guidance.
