The Buzz
AUTUMN TERM - 20TH NOVEMBER 2025
Message from the Executive Headteacher
The weather has certainly changed and feels very autumnal now. It was a real pleasure to see so many of you at the Parent Consultations last week and both leaders and governors found your comments very helpful. There were many positive comments about all aspects of the school and as usual the teaching staff were rightly celebrated. Some of the "even better ifs" were around communication and as a result we will be reviewing our communication strategy and will bring you the results of that in the coming weeks. I do however need to be very clear about WhatsApp and the situation for school use. Last year, all UK schools were directed by the DfE not to use WhatsApp for official communication due to privacy, security and legal risks. We cannot return to using it for any form of school communication. I will provide more information regarding this following the review. I am aware parents will have WhatsApp groups however these cannot be the official class group and will not be promoted on the official class list group.
All children have been enjoying the enrichment opportunities this week. Year 2 pupils all took part in the Great Fire of London workshop and they will all visit the library over the next week; encouraging the love of reading is so important for the children. Year 1 children will be going on a geography walk around the local area to support their learning. Thanks to all the parents who have volunteered to accompany the children for these visits out of school.
All children enjoyed meeting the author Charissa Coulthard, who read her book "Super Me" to them.
Children in Nursery and Reception have also continued meeting adults who help them and this week I was interviewed by the children about my role and what the best part of my job was.
As part of UK Parliament week, next week, our local MP Munira Wilson will be visiting the schools and the school council will be challenging her with some incisive questioning!
Thank you to most parents who park considerately when dropping off and collecting their children. However, we continue to have serious concerns about dangerous parking practices that are putting children's lives at risk. We are particularly concerned about parking on surrounding roads around the school, and residents of Cleves Way contacted the school with video evidence of some very careless parking. This showed parents double parking and potentially emergency vehicles unable to drive up the road. We have contacted parking enforcement officers and requested regular patrols at 3pm during collection time. Parking officers have the authority to issue penalty charge notices. Please park legally and considerately, and allow extra time to find appropriate parking. Even better – consider walking, cycling or using a park-and-stride location if possible.
HPPA - Christmas Raffle
As part of our HPPA Christmas Fair, we have our annual raffle whereby parents and carers can purchase their raffles on classlist. This year we have some wonderful prizes ranging from tickets for ‘Hobbledown’ in Epsom to afternoon tea at the ‘Wharf’. Please scroll down to see the flyer which contains all the information regarding prices and the 16 fabulous prizes.
Next Thursday, 27th November, is non uniform day in exchange for an unopened drink or complete age appropriate pre loved or unopened toy.
I look forward to seeing many of you at the HPPA fair which I know will be a very festive event.
Operation Encompass
HPP is working in collaboration with the Metropolitan Police Service as part of their legal commitments under Operation Encompass.
Operation Encompass is the notification to schools that a child (under 18) has been exposed to, or involved in, any domestic incident. This includes incidents where the child/young person was not present but is part of the household. This will ordinarily be done by the start of the next school day.
Operation Encompass will ensure that a specially trained member of the school staff, known as a Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL), is informed. The DSL can then use the information that has been shared, in confidence, to ensure the wellbeing of the child.
The school may be able to make provisions or adjustments to assist the child and their family. We are keen to offer the best support possible to all our pupils and we believe this will be extremely
beneficial for all those involved.
If you would like more information, please visit https://www.operationencompass.org/ .
Thank you for your ongoing support.
Have a wonderful weekend when it arrives.

Our brilliant fayre needs volunteers from across HPP to support. Please put your name down and fill the last gaps. HPP Inclusion Coffee Afternoon
Wednesday 3rd December at 2.15 in the Honeycomb at HJS
The Inclusion team will be hosting a coffee afternoon. This will be an opportunity to meet the Inclusion Team as well as other parents and carers. Tea, coffee and biscuits will be available.
Although the coffee afternoon is at HJS, we welcome parents from across the partnership and are keen to meet as many parents as possible. There is no agenda for the first meeting this year, just an opportunity to meet up. If you have any requests for any particular support, please let us know as we try to arrange for other professionals and/or visitors to join our meetings throughout the year.
The Inclusion Team:
- Lisa Maxted - HPP Inclusion Lead
- Chloe Hughes - HISN SEND Lead Teacher
- Gemma Delaney - HJS SEND Lead Teacher
- Karen Finnegan - HPP Parent Support Advisor
Due to changes in the Ofsted framework and the anticipated release of the SEND White Paper next year, we are also looking for some parent representatives. As a parent representative for inclusion, you would represent parents and the school as we strive to enhance our inclusive provision for children and you would be another point of contact for parents. If you would be interested in this new role, which we would be looking to launch in the Spring term, please come along to the meeting and let us know. We would be keen to have parents representing HISN and HJS.

Nursery
In nursery we have been learning about people who help us in and out of school. We were fortunate enough to be visited by Toby, our school crossing patrol officer, Mrs Gale, Miss Bissett and Mr Quirk and Mr Boyce. The children have immersed themselves in role play pretending to be firefighters, gardeners, vets and doctors. We have even had the occasional Miss Dowden!
Christmas is on the horizon and we have started creating some decorations for our Christmas display in the hall.
Reception
Very helpful people have been visiting Reception all week! Mr Quirk and Mr Boyle talked to us about taking care of our school building and bringing our snacks, and taking away our rubbish and recycling. Alan from the kitchen told us all about cooking enormous meals for 300 children. Miss Bissett showed us her thermometer which shows whether we are too hot and need to go home to get better. Zavi's dad told the children all about his role, what it means to be a doctor and how he helps children to feel better. We got to ask him questions too and he told us his favourite part of being a doctor is helping people. Toby came to talk to us about helping children to cross the road in his uniform with his lollipop!
We have been sharing our “All About Me” boxes with our teachers and our friends.
Our book of the week was about real-life superheroes who help people in their jobs. We all wore odd socks on Friday and promised to have kind hands and feet and use kind words to our friends.
We made poppies with plastic bottles, paint and bamboo sticks and planted them outside for Remembrance Day.
Amazon Wishlist
Thank you so much for your generous gifts so far, staff and children are enjoying them so much.
Please remember to put which year group the gift is for on your gift message.
Second Hand Uniform
Please note at present we are not asking for second hand uniform to be dropped off at the office until Spring Term - thank you.
Pens and Glue Sticks
Whiteboard pens and glue sticks can be purchased via Class List; once they have been paid for, they will be delivered to your child's class.
NHS Guidelines - Threadworm
Threadworms are a common childhood illness that can spread easily and you can treat them without seeing a GP.
If you find your child does have threadworms, please ensure everybody over 2 years old in the household is treated, even if they do not have symptoms.
Your child can continue to come to school but please ensure you notify your class teacher.
For further information on symptoms and treating threadworms please click here.

HJS Tours for Year 2 Parent/Carers
If your child is moving up to Year 3 in September 2026 and you would like to book a tour of HJS please book via our website HPP website
There will be a tour on Thursday 11th December 9am
The tours will last approximately 1 hour and are for parent/carers of current Year 2 children only.
Year 2 Kew Gardens Visit
Please read the email sent to all Year 2 parents on 16th October regarding Y2's visit to Kew Gardens in March next year. Payment for this visit is due by Friday 30th January. There is an option to pay in instalments if you wish. If you have any questions regarding this, please contact the school office.
Year 1 Brooklands Museum Visit
As part of our History topic of ‘Travel and Transport’, Year 1 will be visiting Brooklands Museum on Friday 8th May 2026.
We rely on parental contributions in order to be able to run the wide variety of visits and workshops that the pupils at HPP enjoy and the contribution we are requesting on this occasion, for each pupil, is £26.50. This includes coach hire, entrance fee, and the ‘Concorde Experience’. Whilst payment of this trip is voluntary, if we do not receive sufficient contributions, we will cancel the visit and a full refund will be made.
In order to support families with making this payment we are offering payment instalments. You can make payments, via Arbor, as frequently as you wish between now and Friday 27th February 2026. If you feel that you are unable to make this contribution and require support with this visit, please contact the school office to arrange a meeting to speak to Mrs Gale, Head of School.
Toilet use after school
If your child needs to use the toilet after school, they can use the toilets in RK, these are well known to the children. All children are given the opportunity to visit the toilet before leaving for the day so please speak to your child about this if this is happening frequently. Children and parents must not enter the school building to find toilets. There is a toilet at HJS in the Music room which children are able to use.
NHS Pharmacy First Service
The NHS Pharmacy First Service is an England-only service, which allows you to access advice and treatment for seven common conditions from your community pharmacy, without the need to see a GP.
It's easy, just walk into a participating pharmacy and ask for help.

Lost Property
Please make sure that your child's water bottle, sweatshirt or cardigan is named; lost property will be put in the box outside the office reception area. Please communicate to other parents via Classlist if you have trouble locating lost cardigans/sweatshirts.
Mobile Phones
Parents should end their phone calls before they enter the school site so that you can greet your children without any distractions and with a smile.
Parking
A reminder to all parents to be considerate to our neighbours when dropping off in the morning and collecting at the end of the day. We do have parking enforcement officers regularly in attendance so please do not park on zigzags, double lines, corners of roads, across neighbours driveways. Ripley Road is a School Street zone and is closed to traffic Monday-Friday 8.30am-9.00am and 2.45pm-3.15pm.
