Midweek Parent Notification
Sept. 23, 2026
Important Information
Why Are We Getting Midweek Parent Notification?
Our School Leader Newsletter comes out on Wednesdays and occasionally there are things that need to be shared with families in the immediacy or that are time sensitive. There may also be information that needs to be repeated or highlighted due to its level of importance. To that end, there may be times when you get midweek information.
Student Safety Alert
There have been several reports from community members where students are being approached by adults in the community while on their way home. While we remind students to get home safely, please share the message of safe passage with your scholar. They must be aware of their surroundings at all time, never go anywhere with anyone for any reason, and always seek out the nearest safe place if being harassed by a stranger. Additionally, students should report to us and to you if something happens to them to and from school.
The district is aware of the concern and is reviewing safe passages home for students and hot spots where these interactions are taking place.

Climate Club Needs You!
The Nichols Climate Club was founded in 2018 and has had several incredible parent volunteers who have been integral to the creation and maintenance of our native gardens and the planting of trees on Nichols grounds.
We are seeking new parent volunteers to assist with garden maintenance in the fall and spring of each school year. We need help with weeding and caring for our gardens. We also have a couple of tree planting days each year–our first will be October 28th at 3:15!
This is a great way to get involved at Nichols, keep our grounds beautiful, and help the environment. Interested? Please reach out to Ms. Sorock at sorocka@district65.net.
Visitor Safety
Guests to the building, including caregivers, are only allowed to enter through the main office, door 1. At no point should a caregiver attempt to enter through any other door, including the student entrances . This is to ensure that all guests are appropriately vetted before being allowed in the building; safety of our staff and students will always be the priority. Additionally, we cannot release a student to any adult outside of the parent/guardian listed in PowerSchool. If there is an adult who will be picking up your scholar during the school day, they must have an official state ID or passport, and we must have prior notification from you regarding approval for pick up.
mySAEBRS Notice
On Sept 28th students will have the opportunity to complete the mySAEBRS survey in their science class. The purpose of mySAEBRS is to identify which SEL skills your child has already learned and which skills they would still need to develop. Once our teachers identify the skills their students still need to learn, they will teach those SEL skills. Our goal is to ensure that your child continually develops the SEL skills they need for lifelong success. We believe that the information gathered with the SAEBRS and mySAEBRS assessment will be beneficial to your child's overall success both inside and outside of the classroom.
