Waikīkī School Parent Bulletin - December 13, 2025
Waikiki School will reopen for all students and staff on Monday, December 15.
Dear Waikiki School Ohana:
Waikiki School will reopen for all students and staff on Monday, December 15.
The Board of Water Supply (BWS) has identified the cause of the rusty brown water. During their ongoing Monsarrat Avenue Water System Improvements Project, the water flow into our campus was unintentionally reversed. This change in flow direction caused naturally occurring particles and sediment to enter the school's water system, leading to the discoloration in our taps and toilets.
Over the past two days, our team, with critical support from external agencies, has worked diligently to ensure the safety and clarity of our water system:
Campus-Wide Flushing: We conducted extensive, campus-wide flushing to clear the distribution system of all discolored water and sediment.
Testing Protocol: This effort was guided by the DOE’s Environmental Unit and the Department of Health (DOH), and included rigorous testing conducted by the BWS Microbiology Unit.
Safe Results: We tested for turbidity/clarity levels, ensured safe levels of residual chlorine, and confirmed the absence of pathogens such as E. coli.
I am happy to report that all water quality levels are now back to normal and are officially safe for regular campus-wide water use, including drinking.
I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and disruption caused by the necessary cancellation of school on Friday. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we prioritized the health and safety of our entire school community.
Please continue to enjoy the rest of your weekend, and I look forward to seeing everyone back on Monday.
Sincerely,
Ryan Kusuda
Principal
