Updates and Info fromDr. TFarley Elementary School - January 5, 2025

2025!! 2025!!

Together, We Soar!

I hope everyone is well-rested and ready to return to school on Monday. We are excited to welcome Mr. Ben Blankenship to 3rd Grade. A huge thanks to Mr. Preston for being a great long term sub.

The weather looks very cold over the next few weeks. I would encourage students to be dropped off no earlier than 7:30AM and please make sure students have adequate winter clothing (check the lost and found also πŸ₯ΆπŸ₯Ά).

Special thanks to our Board Member, Mrs. Andrea Alvarez, the HCS Operations Team, and HCS Special Education Department for updating our playground with new and accessible equipment!

The Alabama State Department of Education recently released School Report Card scores and Farley Elementary was awarded a 94!!! This score represents a multi-year trend of improvement in Academic Achievement and a significant reduction in the percentage of students who are considered Chronically Absent. The three-year trends are visualized below:

Attendance Attendance

Parents may excuse only 8 days for the entire school year.

Parents - remember that excuse notes must be submitted promptly. The HCS expectation is that within 3 days, a parent or doctor's note is submitted to the school. After 8 excused absences (not individual notes), students must have a doctor's note. A student checked out before 11:30AM is considered absent unless they check back in.

Farley Elementary's Chronic Absenteeism rate is around 6%, which lower than our surrounding schools. However, when schools receive their Report Card scores, 15% of the total grade is based on the percentage of students who are Chronically Absent. We lost one point on our Report Card Grade. I would like to get that point back this year, which means our CA rate needs to be less than 3%.

Chronic Absenteeism is defined as a student missing 18 or more days for the school year, regardless of reason.
