CTE CHOIR
FROM: GEORGE HALLEY - MUSIC
Mr. Halley would like to invite your child to join the choir at Cherokee Trail Elementary and you can sign up HERE. The choir program here at CTE is booming and last year it had over 80 members! All choir students get a choir shirt, the opportunity to perform the national anthem before a Colorado Rockies game-they get to be on the field at Coors Field for this! We also have two big concerts in the CTE gym for friends and family in the winter and spring semester.
The choir is open for students in 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th grade and meets in the morning from 7:40-8:20 Tuesdays and Thursdays. You can find more information and sign up HERE.
If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to Mr. Halley ghalley@dcsdk12.org and thank you for supporting the arts here at Cherokee Trail Elementary.

FROM THE AP
Welcome back Cherokee Trail family! I am excited to see our returning students and to welcome and get to know our new ones. In particular, because I know this is going to be an amazing year and we are going to hit the ground running!
For those who don't know me yet, my name is Deborah Ormsby, and I am proud to be the Assistant Principal at the best elementary school: Cherokee Trail! By way of brief introduction, I taught middle school and high school German and English Language way back in the day. Time goes fast: this is year number 10 as an administrator; first at Chaparral High School and then at Englewood Middle School. My husband and I have three boys - all of whom have attended Cherokee Trail (even before I worked here) and supporting the Cherokee Trail Family is one of my dream jobs, so I am thankful and happy to be here!
If you are new to Cherokee Trail, you will find that Mr. Miller has entertaining reads in our weekly newsletter, whereas I tend to share information and speak from the heart. You are welcome to reach out if you have questions or concerns.
If your summer was as busy as ours, then you might be excited for the school year to slow things down and give us more structure! We are also excited to have your children back in the building. I have enjoyed walking through classrooms over the last two days, seeing students hard at work, and welcoming families and students back!
Here is to an amazing year of helping kids grow and become their best selves!
THE PRINCIPAL CHRONICLES
The Principal Chronicles continue ...
Here we are again, back for a 12th season of the Principal Chronicles. It was so awesome to see our students again. Our school isn't the same when there are no students here. This summer, our school got a much-deserved facelift. We got new carpet, we had our windows cleaned, and we got a new kitchen floor. It actually looked and smelled clean for the first time in years. Thank goodness, too, because after the 4th-grade marshmallow fight on the last day, the school smelled pretty funky for a few weeks. Besides that, we welcomed in some new staff and continued to work on our practice to make sure we are ready to tackle the year. As I write this, we have exactly 288 total days to prepare our students for the next grade level. We have to hit the ground running.
On the home front, it has been a very busy summer. My daughter and I traveled to California for her freshman orientation. For my loyal readers, most assumed she would be attending the California State University - Monterey Bay. That is what I had assumed as well. During her orientation, they mentioned to us that they were still waiting for her transcripts. At the time, I thought nothing of it. Little did I know that, secretly behind the scenes, the curse of her senioritis came back to haunt us both.
A few weeks before, we were supposed to be heading off to school. Her tuition was paid, her housing was paid, her meal plan was paid, her fees paid, and everything paid. I asked her about her schedule and she said that she couldn't see it on her phone anymore, and that was weird since she had had her schedule for weeks. She called the registrar, and lo and behold, since she had gotten a D in English, she no longer qualified academically to get in. So then I called them and they explained to me that the lowest grade they accept is a C-, and since she got a D she technically didn't pass HS English. Of course, my daughter was hysterical and crying. I can't even tell you how many times we talked about her grades for the last four years. Unbelievable. I thought for sure my daughter would be crushed and simply just give up on college altogether. To her credit, she got herself put together and into CSU! Somehow, everything worked out and I'll be driving her up there next Tuesday. Funny how the world works. Fun fact: California State University at Monterey Bay is more than willing to take any money you want to give them, but giving it back? Not so much.
That is it for this weeks episode. Stay tuned for next week when the Principal Chronicles continues...
