Reminders
Attendance Information
Suffolk Public Schools DOES NOT excuse absences for family vacations, as the policy lists specific reasons such as illness, death in the family, or other circumstances such as graduations at the principal’s discretion. However, the principal may also allow an excused absence if a student is attending an educational trip/event and can provide documentation that the trip has educational value.
Key points to note:
Standard policy: According to the official Suffolk Public Schools student handbook, vacations are not listed as excused absences.
Excused absences: Generally include illness, medical appointments, or other specific reasons such as a death in the family.
Principal discretion: A principal may excuse absences for “other circumstances,” which could include an educational trip if handled appropriately or graduation.
Educational absences: To request this type of excused absence, families should be able to show how the trip is educational (e.g., budgeting, cultural experiences, etc.).
Important reminders:
Submit the written note or email within five days of your child’s return to school.
Send the note or email directly to me at jaimesanders@spsk12.net.
For policy information, please visit: https://www.spsk12.net/Page/2763
Outside Food
Please note that if such items are brought to the school, they will not be allowed past the front kiosk.
We encourage families to explore alternative ways to celebrate, such as goodie bags with non-food items, special pencils, stickers, or books for the class. You may also review the SPS Nutrition Policy and the list of approved snacks for more guidance on what may be shared at school.
Arrival and Dismissal
- School begins promptly at 9:25 and ends at 3:50. Students who consistently arrive late and leave early miss out on valuable instruction time and disrupt the learning environment. Please consider joining the Tag-Pick Up line or utilizing assigned bus routes to ensure that students are able to stay for the entire school day.
