Principal's Corner- October 9, 2026
Dear Families,
Our knowledge instruction in our CKLA (Core Knowledge Language Arts) this week has included lots of work on the 5 Senses (Kindergarten), the Human Body (First Grade), and Native Americans (Second Grade). In CKLA skills instruction, students have been working on printing their names neatly (Kindergarten), blending phonemes and practicing the /th/ digraph (First Grade), and reviewing "magic e" and learning a variety of contractions (Second Grade).
In Math, Kindergarten students are working with tens frames in the coming week, First Graders are adding and subtracting within 20, and Second Graders are using open number lines within 100. Feel free to use these reading and math terms with your children at home when you ask them about school.
We had visitors from the Flourtown Fire Department this week. Students learned about fire safety and got to see the fire truck. We are loving our October routines!
Happy Autumn,
Dr. Kuhn, Mr. Fleming, and the Enfield Staff

Hispanic Heritage Month
Hispanic Heritage Month is a national celebration in the United States that honors the histories, cultures, and contributions of Hispanic and Latino communities. It takes place from September 15 to October 15, a time chosen to coincide with the independence anniversaries of several Latin American countries, including Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Mexico, and Chile. The celebration began in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week under President Lyndon B. Johnson and was expanded to a full month by President Ronald Reagan in 1988. Today, Hispanic Heritage Month is an opportunity to recognize the lasting impact of Latino figures in fields such as politics, art, music, and science, and to celebrate the vibrant cultures that continue to shape the U.S. in meaningful ways.
Star Students of the Week
Congratulations to this week's "Star Student of the Week" in each class. The following students have been recognized in their class and they met with the principals for a special morning celebration. Students have their star cards posted in the main lobby and are taking home some amazing gifts.

Halloween & Fall Celebration Details
Dear Enfield Families,
On Friday, October 30th, we will host our annual costume parade. This is an optional event for students and families. Families are invited to attend the outdoor parade, weather permitting.
For students who do not celebrate Halloween, we will have an alternative event that will provide fun fall activities for students. This alternative activity takes place at the same time as the parade and classroom celebrations. If you would like your child to participate in the Fall Celebration INSTEAD of the Costume Parade/classroom party, please RSVP by clicking here.
The parade will begin promptly at 9:15 am.
Here are a few reminders about the parade:
Please send your child to school dressed in their costume on the 30th. Also, please make sure all costumes are appropriate for elementary school children. Make sure there are no dangerous accessories brought to school.
Family members are invited to stand on the sidewalks and around the perimeter of the bus loop. The side entrance on Paper Mill Road will be blocked off and a member from our facilities department will be there to assist with the parade.
Students will walk in the order of Kindergarten, First Grade, and Second Grade. Students will then return to their homerooms for classroom celebrations. The entire parade should take no more than 30 minutes.
Please use the Enfield Parking lot to park and walk through our playground to the bus loop (off Montgomery Ave). We encourage carpooling due to limited parking.
You do not need your clearances to watch the parade outside along our parade route.
Only the family members who have been identified to support classroom parties will be permitted inside the building. Volunteers may only enter from the front office of the building and must bring their ID.
Treat Monsters Have Arrived
Our friendly "treat monsters" have returned! Thank you to the families that created them both at Enfield and Erdenheim. Enfield will be collecting candy donations next week, October 12th-16th. Your donations support the Trunk or Treat event that will be held at Erdenheim on Saturday the 17th.
Our treat monsters are located in our lobby. Students can bring their candy donations to their teachers. Families can also drop off their donations at carline. Either way, our staff will make sure it ends up in the treat monster's belly.
We do ask that you try to provide non-nut candies and allergy friendly non-candy treats as well!
Thank you for your support!
Second Step Lessons of the Week
Kindergarten:
What Is My Child Learning?
Your child is learning that self-talk is when you talk to yourself in a quiet voice or in your head. Your child is also learning to use self-talk to stay on task and remember directions.
First:
What Is My Child Learning?
Your child is learning how to pay attention to other people’s faces and bodies to figure out what they are feeling.
Ask your child: Can you show me what a surprised face and body look like? (Have your child model “surprised.” Model back “surprised” for your child.)
Can you show me what a disgusted face and body look like? (Have your child model “disgusted.” Model back “disgusted” for your child.)
Second:
What Is My Child Learning? Your child is learning and practicing four
Skills for Learning: focusing attention, listening, using self-talk, and being assertive. Using Skills for Learning helps children be better learners. Self-talk helps children stay focused and on task.
Ask your child: When do you use self-talk to help you be a better learner at school?
