49 Wing Safety Gram: Car Seat Use 🚕 49 Wing Safety Gram: Car Seat Use 🚕

Safety gram from the 49WG Safety Office and Lt Col DeWulf:

Let’s talk about something small… but surprisingly loud, with super-human strength, and absolutely mission-critical: our kids.

Whether you’re rolling through the gate or heading off base for a quick trip, proper use of child and infant car seats isn’t just a “good idea”—it’s the law, it’s common sense, and it’s one of the easiest ways to protect your most valuable cargo.

Here’s the deal:

  • If your child is in the car, they need to be in the right seat for their age, weight, and height.
  • That seat needs to be installed correctly (“it doesn’t move THAAAAT much” is not a technical standard).
  • And the harness needs to be snug enough that your kid can’t perform an in-seat escape worthy of a Hollywood action movie.
  • Base Security Forces are actively enforcing child restraint requirements. Translation: if your tiny passenger isn’t properly secured, you may get a friendly reminder… in the form of a not-so-friendly ticket or restrictions... Let’s avoid that.

We’ve attached a helpful flyer that walks through proper car seat selection, installation, and fit. It’s quick, clear, and might just save you from a future wrestling match with a tangle of straps and good intentions.

Bottom line:

Secure the seat. Secure the kid. Carry on with your day knowing you’ve done the right thing.

If you’re unsure whether your car seat setup passes inspection, take a few minutes to review the attached flyer—or reach out for assistance (I’ll come out and show you my car seat skills!) Because when it comes to safety, “close enough” doesn’t cut it, especially with our kids.

Stay safe, drive smart, and keep the smallest members of your team protected.
