Dear Mary Hogan Families,

What an awesome week we had! I was so grateful for the beautiful fall weather while we were all out running and exercising together. Students were supportive of one another, cheering for each other, welcoming finishers across the line, checking in if someone fell, and helping each other around the course. It was great to see families cheering students along too. Many thanks to Cyndi Palmer and Stephanie Bull for pulling the run together, to Middlebury PD for closing down Buttolph Dr. for the 3rd-5th grade runners, and teachers and staff for making the run a huge success. There are a ton of photos below from the run, so check them out!

Another AMAZING community event is coming this Sunday. I hope you all can come to the MESA Family Skating event on Sunday 4-5.30pm at the Memorial Sports Center. Skate rentals are paid for by MESA, as long as they are available.

Be well,

Jen

November Update from the Library November Update from the Library

The students in K-2 grade have begun reading the 10 Vermont Red Clover books. The students will read them with Julie in the library and then vote for their favorite one.

Many students in grades 4 and 5 are reading books from the Vermont Golden Dome book list and are recording their progress on the charts hanging in the library. Students can read the books, ebook version, or listen to the audiobook. We have some kindles that we loan out to students for this purpose! If any parent or student would like support putting the LIBBY app on a personal device, we can help with that. You just need to come in with your device and your FREE Ilsley library card number. It’s a terrific way to access FREE audiobooks!

Rock Climbing Rock Climbing

The 5th graders began a 3 week climbing unit in PE. They have been challenging themselves by choice when climbing up the rock wall, on the bouldering wall, and on the ropes elements. The program only happens because of the awesome family volunteers. The 4th graders will have a chance on the climbing elements in December!

Hola estimada familias:

In Spanish class, students are talking about fruits, animals, environments, and communities, and how we can help to protect the planet that we all share. We are learning about the 3 Rs “Reducir, Reutilizar, Reciclar” and how each of us using these 3Rs can help to protect the natural resources in our daily life. Students are learning to create basic sentences, and apply vocabulary they have learned to add more details and start moving to more complex sentences to express their desires, likes and dislikes, needs and preferences.

Students in 3rd grade are in the midst of an inquiry into where we are in place and time. Part of this inquiry has them studying fossils and what we can learn about change in the earth from the form of the fossils. Students became paleontologists this week while studying fossils, uncovering their own small dinosaur as well as creating different types of fossils in clay.
