Hello from NCA’s Office of Academic & College Advising. If you are a 9th grader or are just new to NorthPoint, welcome! I look forward to meeting you soon:) Upperclassmen, I hope you have had some time to work on the relevant to-do items from our advising meeting at a more relaxed pace over the summer while also having time for lots of rest and relaxation.
Items for attention:
All 9th, 10th, and 11th grade students will be taking the PSAT this year. I know some of our students took it last year, but we are now ready to make this a regular part of our academic requirements. The PSAT is an important tool used as a stepping stone to the real SAT needed for college admissions. It should be taken in 9th, 10th, and 11th grade. The PSAT is also the National Merit Qualifying Test for students in the 11th grade. Hickory Grove Christian School is going to accommodate seats for all of our NCA 9-11th grade students. Parents, this test will be administered on the Hickory Grove Campus on Friday, October 24th around 8AM. It is on a school day, so attendance is required. Parents will be responsible for payment to Hickory Grove for the test and for transportation to and from the test. Please plan for this now. Payments will be submitted online later this month. More information to follow on this.
Seniors: Log into Scoir today and be sure you can still access your account. Do all college searching through Scoir asap. Please mark schools of interest as FOLLOW in Scoir and sign the FERPA Release and Waiver. If you cannot log into Scoir, see me immediately. Also, be sure you have at least one ACT or SAT. If you have not taken one of these, please sign up now if you plan to go to college. The dates are on the handout I gave you during Open House. Finally, we are having a required SENIOR NIGHT for all 12th Grade students and at least one parent per family on Monday, August 18th from 6:30-8:30 PM in the Art Studio at NorthPoint. Please mark your calendars now. The entire college application process and all relevant steps will be outlined at this meeting. Each family will receive a packet of detailed information reviewed in the meeting and used to successfully navigate the entire list of senior year to-do items:)
New 9th Graders & New HS Students: Please Purchase a file crate for your high school student with about 25 hanging files with labels. This will serve as your student’s college file to begin to get organized for life after high school. All 9th-12th grade students will need the file. Existing NCA HS students should have this already from last year. I will provide instructions in the weeks to come regarding file use. Please have the crate and hanging files by Labor Day Weekend. Here are links to examples of the crate and files. You can purchase them anywhere.
Fall National Christian College Fair will be held Monday, September 22nd at Charlotte Christian School from 6-8:00PM. All high school NCA students are invited, so mark your calendars! More info to come. Thank you & have an amazing first week!
