HMS Spirit Week is Coming!
Get ready to show your spirit!
During the days leading up to our Thanksgiving Break, HMS Class Advisors have planned days packed with fun events, activities, and dress-up themes.
In order to help you prepare for these days, here is an overview of some of the things you can expect . . .
Monday, November 24
- Grade Six Dress Up Theme - The Outsiders. Students can choose to dress as either a "Greaser" or a "Soc".
- Grades Seven and Eight Dress Up Theme - "Tacky Tourist Day". Find your "tackiest" vacation clothing.
Tuesday, November 25
- All Grades Dress Up Theme - Mismatch Day. Anything goes! Stripes and polka dots! Plaids and floral prints! One dress shoe and one sneaker! The more mismatched the better!
Wednesday, November 26
- All Grades Dress Up Theme - Team Shirt Day. Show your school and team spirit by wearing your new team t-shirt.
In addition to these fun dress-up themes, we'll have a variety of activities and events for our students, like "Spot the Turkeys", where students need to find the three "turkeys" in our building.
Stay tuned for more information about this fun-filled week!
HMS is Here to Help
We understand that making ends meet can be difficult for some families in our HPS community. Therefore, we want to let you know that there are individuals in each of our schools who are ready to provide information and assistance. Resources may be available to help families in times of financial need or other challenging situations. Our particular area of outreach is for food support for the upcoming holidays.
Please don’t hesitate to contact an administrator, the school nurse, or counseling personnel at your child's school if you are in need of food support for the holidays. Rest assured that your request will be managed in a way that respects your rights to confidentiality.
Science Explorers Club Launches with a Stellar Activity!
The Science Explorers held their first meeting this week, preparing for the Leonid Meteor Shower on November 16–17
Students practiced identifying the Leo constellation in live night-sky photos—the area where the meteors will appear to radiate from.
Families are encouraged to enjoy the meteor shower together and experience the wonder of the night sky! We've even attached a "watch log" for anyone interested!
Stay tuned for the next Science Explorers Meeting!
Bus Reminder
Many of our buses are at capacity and do not have room for additional passengers.
Students are also reminded that cellphones should remain away (in backpacks) while riding the bus.
Food Drive Donations Needed
Hingham Middle School will be participating in a school-wide food drive. The Hingham Food Pantry is a non-profit run by volunteers. It serves families and individuals in the Hingham community who face food insecurity. Your donations help fill the pantry’s shelves, providing meals and comfort to those in need.
They are looking for the following donations:
Mac & Cheese, Campbell’s Soups, Mashed or Scalloped Potatoes, Healthy Cold Cereal, Crackers, Boxes of Granola Bars, Brownie or Cookie Mix
Students can bring in donations to their homeroom teacher.
In eighth grade, science classes have started their chemistry unit, where students recently had the opportunity to explore and observe bath bombs.
Coming Events
- 11/24 - 11/26 Spirit Week Activities
- 11/26 - Early Release
- 11/27 - 11/30 Thanksgiving Recess
Check out our Week-at-a-Glance for more info on clubs and activities!
Private School Application Process
If your child plans to apply to a private school, please note that our school counselors require advance notice to handle these requests. To provide sufficient time to organize student records, gather teacher feedback, and provide thoughtful recommendations, we kindly request that you submit the required paperwork at least 15 school days before the earliest application deadline.
Additional information can be found on the HMS website under the “Families” section.
Food Support for Families and Free and Reduced Lunch Program
While SNAP benefits are resuming, we still want to assure you that free, nutritious breakfast and lunch will continue to be available to all students each school day. You can view our menus here.
Food security resources are available, including Project Bread's FoodSource Hotline, https://projectbread.org/foodsource-hotline (1-800-645-8333). FoodSource hotline counselors, in 180 languages, can help families find food assistance through other sources such as the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Program and local food pantries. The Hingham Food Pantry is located at Second Parish Church on 685 Main Street (781) 740-8180.
Want to help? Consider donating unopened, non-perishable, and unexpired foods.
Donations can be made at the Hingham Food Pantry, as well as Stop & Shop, Sotheby's, Jack Conway, and Coldwell Banker.
Free and Reduced Lunch Program
Although school meals are free, we encourage families to still apply for meal benefits.
Families can apply at any time throughout the school year, should their household situation change. If you think you might qualify, this could provide access to additional benefits within the district. Applications can be completed online at schoolcafe.com, or you can find hard copies on our Food services site or the district's food service page. For a mailed application, please contact Marisalyn Biagini at mbiagini@hinghamschools.org.
