Blake Winslow Named New Lady Tigers Head Basketball Coach
Blue Ridge ISD is pleased to introduce Blake Winslow as the new Lady Tigers Head Basketball Coach. Coach Winslow has been the head coach in Wolfe City since 2017 where his teams had 5 playoff appearances, were Area Finalists twice, and secured a District Championship. His teams accumulated a 116-68 win/loss record in Wolfe City. Prior to Wolfe City, he coached in Honey Grove and Leonard.
Coach Winslow places specific concentration on building a program that starts in pre-athletics. He has demonstrated a strong focus on working with athletes and coaches in middle school to align with the high school program. He has even coached a middle school team while being the head coach.
Coach Winslow and his wife, Rebecca, are both educators with a passion for making a difference for kids. They have two young children as well. Coach Winslow will be present Monday during girls' athletics to meet our coaches and athletes.

Faculty Highlight: Benedict Nguyen-Lee
Farmersville Campus Professor of Biology Benedict Nguyen-Lee has been teaching at Collin College since 2018. He served as a part-time professor from Spring 2018 to Summer 2021 at the McKinney Campus and became a full-time professor in Fall 2021 at the Farmersville Campus.
Nguyen-Lee teaches General Biology I and II for science majors and non-science majors and Anatomy and Physiology I and II for science and non-science majors.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Biology with a minor in neuroscience and a Master of Science in Biotechnology from The University of Texas at Dallas. He also holds a graduate certificate in Medical Anatomy and Physiology from the University of Florida College of Medicine.
What would you like parents and students to know about biology classes at the Farmersville Campus?
Nguyen-Lee: I come from a background of teaching adult learners from many walks of life. Because of Collin College’s relationship with Farmersville ISD, I have had the privilege of teaching Farmersville seniors.
Dual credit biology classes have the same course content and rigor as regular biology classes. However, the way I teach dual credit biology is different. Instead of sticking to “textbook biology,” I try to break down biology concepts into their constituent parts, making the course content easier to digest.
Class sizes at Collin College are small, and I often have Farmersville seniors for General Biology I and II. This provides the opportunity for students and professors to get to know each other, especially since we see each other three times a week, consecutively. This relationship is important to me because when I was a university student, I never got to know my professors well because I was just one of hundreds of students.
Finally, the best part of taking General Biology at the Farmersville Campus is that it helps mold Farmersville seniors into better, college-ready students. Over the course of even one semester, many of my students’ study habits change to meet the higher rigor of a dual credit class. Learning how to be successful at dual credit General Biology will pay many dividends for students when they go off to study at a university, especially in the field of science.
