From the Desk of Dr. Juli Alligood, Executive Director
At MGRESA, we hope that you have all had a wonderful, energy-infused start to the school year! Throughout our professional learning offerings, you have probably noticed an emphasis on art. Sure, spattered everywhere, there is a cutesy theme enveloping drawing, painting, and all things filled with wonder, color, and texture, and, yes, you will see a lot of “the arts” as we explore artists and literature that encompasses all of the humanities. Moreover, though, we hope you will find an art that is at the very heart of teaching and learning. In an age where there is a huge emphasis on the science of everything… learning, teaching, reading, and the list goes on… we hope that you will be purposeful as you engage with the art side of our work.
As an undergraduate, I remember all too well my professors asking me to expound upon whether I thought teaching was more an art or a science. Well, of course, I believe that it is an exciting blend of both, but I have come to wonder: in our fast-food, instant information, check-it-off society, have we forgotten about the importance of the art of our wonderful profession? We believe the best of our work incorporates the blend of both the science and the art of teaching and learning. We hope you will join MGRESA throughout the year as we make an intentional effort to focus on the art… it’s the very heART of what we do!
Please take a minute to access our professional learning offerings to explore all that we have to offer. And, yes! There is even some learning designed for our traditional art teachers...see below to see how area art teachers are being supported in their professional practice!
Believe,
Juli
