Families of the Bay Families of the Bay

Dear OBJH Families,

There’s a lot happening at The Bay this October! Our focus this month is Respect, connecting with Bullying Prevention Month. We’re talking with students about kindness, including others, and speaking up when someone needs help. Staff are recognizing these everyday choices with 3R tickets. Ask your student what respect looks like during their school day—we’d love for these conversations to continue at home!

Fall conferences are October 19–23. Students are choosing a piece of work they’re proud to share with you and preparing to explain what it shows about their learning. If you haven’t scheduled your conference yet, please connect with your student’s Advisory teacher. We look forward to hearing from you, celebrating progress, and talking about how we can support your student together.

Next week, students will hear ASB candidate speeches and vote for their student leaders. Spirit Week runs October 19–23, including Unity Day on October 21, and Season 2 sports begin October 26. It’s great to see our Timberwolves getting involved!

Thank you for partnering with us and helping make The Bay a place where students feel welcome, supported, and connected.

Every classroom. Every teacher. Every student. Go T-Wolves!

Our eighth graders visited Skokomish Valley Farms on October 7 & 8 for some hands-on learning! Students explored the farm and greenhouse, checked out what was growing, and spent time working together in the kitchen. The photos capture a few moments from their day.

Ask your eighth grader what they tried, noticed, or learned during the visit. Thank you to everyone who helped make this experience possible!

A Quick Look at Our Student Handbook A Quick Look at Our Student Handbook

With so many students sharing classrooms, hallways, lunch spaces, and the gym each day, it helps when we’re all working from the same expectations. Our Student Handbook explains those expectations and is a good place to turn when you or your student have a question about how things work at The Bay.

Take a look when you have a chance: Oakland Bay Junior High Student Handbook. You can also reach out to us if you need help finding an answer.

At OBJH, we’re committed to a safe, healthy, and focused learning environment for all students. Strong scents (perfume, cologne, body spray, scented lotions) can trigger headaches, nausea, difficulty concentrating, and even serious allergic or asthma reactions. Because scents linger and spread in shared spaces, they can impact an entire classroom and disrupt learning.

This isn’t about preference—it’s about health, safety, and access to learning for every student and staff.

To support student learning, connection, and a positive school environment, cell phones should be turned off and stored in student lockers during the school day.

We appreciate families partnering with us to help students stay present and focused throughout their day.

A few important reminders:

  • Cell phones should be off and stored in lockers

  • Students should not carry phones in classrooms, hallways, or other school spaces

  • If a student needs to contact home, a staff member can help

  • If families need to reach their student during the school day, please contact the main office

Thank you for helping us create a school environment where students can focus on learning, relationships, and being part of our T-Wolf community.

Be Present. Be Connected. Be a T-Wolf.
