Cougar Update
February Edition

Please read the message from Dr. Smith, Principal.
Congress Cougars,
As we approach the final month of the school year, I want to share some important updates to ensure we finish strong together. Please note that we have made several adjustments to our calendar for the remainder of the school year to accommodate our testing schedule and upcoming events. With the changing spring weather, please ensure your student comes to school appropriately dressed - mornings can still be cool while afternoons warm up considerably, so layered clothing is recommended.
I must also address our ongoing challenge with the school cell phone policy. Many students tell us they're responding to parent texts during class time, and unfortunately, we often verify this is true. This is counterproductive to our established policies designed to minimize distractions and maximize learning time.We respectfully ask all parents to refrain from texting your children during school hours. If you need to reach your child for an emergency, please contact the main office directly.
As we prepare for our final assessments, please help your student be successful by ensuring they get adequate sleep, providing a nutritious breakfast, making sure they arrive at school on time, and encouraging a positive attitude toward testing. Our testing schedule is detailed below - please review it carefully and mark these dates on your calendar. A heartfelt thank you to our amazing PTA for sponsoring field trips, providing lunch for our students, and supplying snacks during testing days! Their support enriches our students' experiences tremendously. If you haven't yet joined our PTA, we need you! Active parent involvement makes a tremendous difference in our school community.
For the first time, Congress Middle School will perform our first musical, School House Rocks! Our students have been preparing and rehearsing to make for a great night. We would like to sell out so please make sure you clear your calendar to attend. It's going to be great!!! April 16th and 17th - I'm so excited I just can't hide it! As the great Spanish philosopher Miguel de Unamuno once said, "El que no construye, destruye" - "He who does not build, destroys." Your participation helps build a stronger foundation for our students' success. When you participate actively in your child's education, they feel a sense of pride knowing their parents are invested in making their school year memorable.
Go Congress Cougars!

Because You Care
Our employees are the reason we are so successful here at Congress Middle School and the Park Hill School District, and the Park Hill School District would like to recognize us for all we do for our students.
The Park Hill Star award is awarded monthly to any staff member in the school district. Anyone can nominate an employee for this award by using the form below. In addition, please send a note of encouragement to our Congress Staff, letting them know you care.
Sometimes, negative comments are made directly to our staff members or posted on social media. We want to change that narrative! We want the positive vibes to outweigh the negative vibes. Please vote for one of our staff members or send a kind note to staff members for the entire month of December.

The MAP test checks how well students are learning what they're supposed to know in Missouri schools. Every year, students take this test to see if they understand the important things that Missouri says students in their grade should understand.
Message from Sprigeo
We created Sprigeo so people would feel safer at school. When a person really needs help or there is a safety threat at school we hope you will step up and send in a report. Sending in a false report makes it harder for your school to help the people who really need it. If necessary you can contact the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-8255. You can find out more about Sprigeo and the School District Safety Evaluation at Sprigeo.com. Thanks for using Sprigeo!
Joe Bruzzese, Founder of SprigeoIf you feel unsafe or know someone who feels unsafe, please report it here. After you fill out the form below, Sprigeo sends an email to a school administrator with all of the details from your report. You can also download one of our apps from the Apple Store or the Android Marketplace to submit a report.
