** VMEA Blue Ribbon Celebration **
This past Thursday, our amazing Band, Chorus and Orchestra celebrated their VMEA Blue Ribbon Award.
As shared recently, this year Mount Vernon has earned the prestigious designation of being a VMEA Blue Ribbon School for the third time in school history.
This award is the highest music honor for middle and high schools in the Commonwealth and is only achieved by the top ensembles in band, orchestra, and chorus all achieving ratings of “Superior” at their respective district assessment events.
The MVHS Wind Ensemble, MVHS Advanced Treble Chorus, and MVHS Chamber Orchestra not only earned overall ratings of superior, but earned straight superior ratings on stage and sight reading.
Congratulations to our music department!

** The Senior Class of 2026 Mulch Sale Fundraiser was a great success! **
We exceeded our goal and previous years' sales, which will go a long way to funding their graduation party!
Parents and students contributed their time, vehicles, and strength, moving heavy mulch bags to support the delivery effort! Valuable volunteer hours were earned by students. Parents set a strong example of giving back and community, thank you!
A special thanks to Mt. Diablo Landscaping! Dan Neufeld donated his team and vehicles, and without his help, this number of orders would have been a very difficult task to deliver. Much appreciation to this neighborhood family-owned business putting their community first.
Please reach out to Dan and Mt. Diablo for any home outdoor needs.

** Family Literacy Program at MVHS **
MVHS is proud to partner with the FCPS Family Literacy Program to bring Family Literacy Sessions for our families on Mondays and Wednesdays this spring of 2026.
"The Family Literacy Program is part of the Office for ESOL Services in Fairfax County Public Schools. It is designed to empower and connect English Learner (EL) families to their community and with their children’s school. Adult learners acquire basic English language skills while learning how to understand, participate, and support in their children’s education in Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS website)."
Special thanks to our Family Liaisons Ofelia Clarke and Keyli Villela Mancilla for all their hard work and dedication to bring not only this program to our families, but also the Engaged Parent Sessions on Tuesday evenings.
Also, special thanks to MVHS teachers Erick Diaz, Nate Galbreath, and Ricardo Rodriguez Mojica for teaching our families and their students.
We currently are serving close to 80 MVHS families in our Literacy Sessions.

Early Release Days
In the event of a 3-hour early release, lunch service will still be available between 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. Both cold and hot meal options will be available. Students are still required to pick up complete reimbursable meals; otherwise, à la carte charges will be applied. All meals provided by FNS must be consumed on-site.
School Nutrition Accounts, PINs, Prepayments, & MySchoolBucks

State legislation and the FCPS Meal Charge Policy direct all school nutrition account negative balance communication to parents/caregivers. Additionally, students may not be denied a breakfast or lunch meal for any reason. FNS will work with school administrators to communicate low/negative account balances.
Menus
School menus offer a variety of entrees, fruits, and vegetables that meet or exceed USDA guidelines, including nutrient standards. Menus, allergens, and nutrition information are all available online at LINQ Connect. School menus will be published monthly, starting one week before the first day of school. FNS makes every effort to offer items as listed on the planned menu. Unanticipated substitutions are published on LINQ Connect whenever possible.
