Lynx Leadership Message Lynx Leadership Message

Thanksgiving is here and we have a lot for which to be thankful at Forest Grove.

We are grateful for an incredible staff team who worked together to make Read In Week a wonderful event. Mme Skelton led this initiative and ensured that fun things were happening all week to celebrate reading! We had many great guest readers from fire fighters, to elected officials to alumni Oiler, Matt Kassian! There were contests, reading with a flashlight and dress up days! What fun!

We are also thankful for the parent community who work closely as our partners in making good things happen for kids. We thank you for taking our phone calls, for dropping of your children with a smile, for attending all of the early morning practices and after school games. We are so lucky to have parents who are active participants in their child's learning! Today we were thrilled to see such a great turn out for Family Read in!

Finally, we are so thankful for the students who bring life to this school. They are funny, clever, kind and full of energy. Watching the older students step up for the younger students has been inspiring and there isn't a day where we don't feel warmth in our hearts watching older students make a point to be kind to our littlest learners. We are truly on track in building a place where learning takes root and success grows!

Have a happy Thanksgiving!

As we celebrate Thanksgiving, it is a wonderful opportunity to reflect on gratitude and the positive impact it can have on our well-being.

As a school community, we can practice gratitude by noticing the little things that bring us joy, appreciating the people who support us, and recognizing the kindness we receive and share each day. Taking a moment to focus on what we are thankful for can help us build stronger relationships, develop a positive mindset, and create a more caring and connected school environment.

Wishing everyone a happy and meaningful Thanksgiving!

Your counselling team,

Mme Natalie Pathirana et Mme Katharina Staub

October 21 (3:30-6:30) and October 22 (4:00-7:00)

Registration Opens: October 12, 2026, at 9:00 AM

It is almost time for our first round of interviews!

Kindergarten

Our kindergarten students have not had enough time yet at school for a conference. Our kinder conferences will take place later November 1-20 and a sign up link will be sent out at that time.

Grades 1 to 6

Elementary (Grades 1-6) conferences will be scheduled for 10 minutes each. Conferences will be held in your child’s classroom. The link to book elementary interviews is https://mybookit.app/book/ae3pbvg.

To ensure every family has an opportunity to meet with the teacher, we kindly ask that families only book one interview slot per family for each student. If your child has a different ELA/FLA teacher, please book your interview with your homeroom teacher. If you would also like to connect with the ELA/FLA teacher, please reach out to them directly to arrange a separate time. This will help ensure that all families have an opportunity to book a spot with their child’s homeroom teacher. Thank you for your understanding!

Grades 7 to 9

Junior High (Grades 7-9) conferences will be scheduled for 7 minutes each. Conferences will be held in the gymnasium. The link to book junior high interviews is https://mybookit.app/book/e4830qh. To ensure every family has an opportunity to meet with the teacher, we kindly ask that families only book one interview slot per family for each student. Please refrain from booking back-to-back appointments.

Please reach out if you have any questions or concerns general.fgr@eips.ca or 587-882-0800.

As a first fundraising activity for our new school, we are organizing a bottle drive during the parent/student/teacher conferences on October 21 and 22.

Bring a bag of bottles when you come to parent/teacher/student conferences and toss them in the bottle depot trailer parked near the Forest Grove sea can. Proceeds will go to supporting our school with our outdoor spaces.

We will also be selling pizza by the slice in the small gym throughout the evening. Come have a slice and connect with other families while attending your child's conference. Then visit the Scholastic Book Fair in the library to make the evening a complete success!

Pay with Electronic Funds Transfer!

School fees for 2026-27 are now posted to the PowerSchool Parent Portal. All fees are due within 30 days of being posted. To help make fee payment as convenient as possible, EIPS offers several payment options, including a brand-new option this year—Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) payments, also known as E-Cheque. EFT payments allow you to pay directly from your bank account with no added fees, giving you added flexibility beyond credit or debit card payments.

When you log into your PowerSchool Parent Portal, click the “Student Fees” icon and proceed to checkout. You’ll now see EFT (E-Cheque) listed as a payment option. Simply follow the on-screen instructions to complete your payment.

To make checkout even faster, you can save EFT to your account for future use.

  1. Log in to your PowerSchool Parent Portal account
  2. Click on the “Student Fees” icon

  3. Open the menu in the top-right corner

  4. Select Manage Payment Methods

  5. Add and save your EFT (E-Cheque) details

Once saved, you can select EFT at checkout without re-entering your information each time.

For more information, visit the fees section of the website . Alternatively, contact Mme Aicha, Senior Administrative Assistant and Business Manager 587-882-0800.

Important Information about Meta & Smart Glasses Important Information about Meta & Smart Glasses

As outlined in Ministerial Order 014/2024, the Government of Alberta has established standards for the use of personal mobile devices and social media in schools. Within Elk Island Public Schools’ Administrative Procedure 145: Use of Personal Mobile Devices further outlines acceptable and proper use of personal mobile devices by both staff and students.

Meta glasses and other smart glasses are considered personal mobile devices, and therefore their use is governed by the ministerial order and administrative procedure. While prescription glasses are and always have been permitted in schools to give students the tools they need to learn, Meta and smart glasses are not universally permitted in schools. An eyeglass prescription is not a valid medical condition to permit the use of Meta or other smart glasses. Families are encouraged to explore non-smart glasses options for their children with eyeglass prescriptions.
