Principal Points
DeLay Students, Families, and Staff,
We hope you're enjoying the long weekend for Labor Day. Remember... no school on Monday! We've been very pleased with the start of the school year - more students bringing and wearing ID, fewer behavior concerns, and great efforts being made in class. One thing we've noticed more and more is students out of dress code... we know it's hot, but please make sure students are wearing tops and bottoms long enough to meet the LISD dress code.
We hope everyone is able to come to our combined Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration / Family Technology Night / Annual Title I Meeting on Wednesday, September 16 from 6:00 to 7:30pm. We'll have food 🌮, piñatas and other fun 🎉, and music 🎶. At the Parent Event, families can learn about Skyward, Canvas, and other programs to help you support your child at school.
It's iPad collection week! Last week, I sent emails to all students and guardians were missing iPad payment, forms, or both. That email helped, with more than 50 families taking action - thank you! But we still have over 300 families who need to take action. Students without their forms complete and iPads paid for in Revtrak will have their iPads taken up this week.
It's going to be a big year at DeLay and we will need everyone's help and support. We look forward to partnering with you!
Adam Gray
Principal, DeLay MS
Skyward Family Access and Free and Reduced Lunch
LISD’s back-to-school forms are ready for families to complete in Skyward Family Access. The back-to-school forms must be submitted for every student each school year.
- Returning students - families need to review all forms, make necessary changes or updates, and submit.
- New students - families must complete ALL forms and submit.
Please also apply for Free and Reduced Lunch. We ask all families to complete this, regardless of income. DeLay's funding and school rating both improve with every approved application. This must be completed every new school year.
If you have trouble accessing Family Skyward Access, click here for technical support.
Tutoring
Starting this week, all teachers will be offering two tutoring times per week, either before or after school. We will share the complete list of times in the next newsletter. Make sure that your students are communicating with their teachers, since students need a pass to come before school and, if they need bussing, we need a list of students who are staying after school. We're eager to provide this extra support to students.
Upcoming Dates
September 7: No School
September 8-11: iPads collected if no forms/payment
September 8: Tutoring Bus begins (each Tuesday and Thursday)

Join PTA
Parents and guardians, we need you! Please support the DeLay PTA this year by clicking on the link or scanning the QR code and joining us! The cost is $13.50 for the year and your contribution helps us support the students and staff of DeLay in so many ways. Please and thank you!
If you would like more information about other ways you can support the DeLay PTA, please email Ms. Garza at garzam@lisd.net.
Social Media
All four DeLay Houses are in a competition for the most likes and comments! Go find the posts on Facebook and Instagram and support your House before 6pm on Sunday, August 9.
New DeLay Schedule for 26-27 School Year
Please note that we will have 4 minute passing periods between classes, not 5 like most middle schools. We plan on learning a lot in that extra minute!
Counselor Corner
Ms. Saffle (last names A-L) safflel@lisd.net
Ms. Green (last names M-Z) greenkr@lisd.net
In Lewisville ISD, the whole child is at the core of everything we do as a district, including our students' mental, emotional and physical health. With counselors on every campus, LISD knows parents want their children to receive an outstanding education, but more importantly, they want their children to be nurtured and cared for beyond just academics.
LISD provides families with resources to ensure each child receives the support they need to develop every aspect of their being.

Please help us welcome Nurse Ivette Vargas to DeLay!
School Houses
Our students will once again be in a school House. House points can be earned for good behavior, hard work, and extra effort made at school. Each week, one student in each House will win special prizes, and each month the winning House will receive a delicious treat.
Our Houses are names for the 4 elements - earth, air, wind and fire. Returning students will stay in the same House they had last year. New students will be placed into a House during the first week of school. Our Houses:

Dress Code
Parents, we need your help. PLEASE talk to your students and monitor the clothes they are wearing to school. Please keep in mind the following:
- Too many students expose their midriffs, either because shirts are too short or students are tying knots into the backs of their shirts.
- If students wear tights, they also need to wear shorts or something else that will cover their behinds.
- Unless there is a religious exemption, no hats or other head coverings are allowed in school.
Our administrators and teachers need to be able to focus on academics! Please help us out by monitoring what your students wear to school.
Student IDs
These rules will be in effect once students have IDs. Please develop a routine, such as always putting the ID in the same part of the backpack, to keep from forgetting it.
High School ID and Bag Policy
In order to attend a game/athletic competition/or special event of any kind at any LISD High School, including DeLay football games played at an LISD high school, ALL students must either, 1. Wear their current School ID or, 2. Be accompanied by a parent. If a student shows up to a HOME or AWAY event without their ID, or their parent, they will NOT be permitted to attend and will be turned away at the door.
Also, backpacks and school bags are not allowed and will not be stored.LISD has adopted a Clear Bag Policy this year, captured below, and all spectators, students and adults, must comply. Additionally, outside food and drink are not permitted into the event other than a clear plastic water bottle. Lastly, all spectators are subject to the Weapons Detection System and to help make event arrival smoother, please review the informational video HERE.
Pick-Up Procedures
Please help us make DeLay a safe zone at the end of the day! Review the next two images and email the principal if you have any questions.
Voly
We are eager to have more parent volunteers at DeLay this year! We would love to see more parents and family members active at the school. To volunteer or to attend field trips, please click here to sign up for Voly.
Cell Phone, Smart Watch and Wireless Headphone Policy
Cell phones and Smart Watches, such as Apple Watches, can be both a communication tool for families and a distraction to learning for our students. In order to focus our learning and instruction time with students, all Texas students are required to put personal devices/cell phones/Smart Watches away in their backpack from the time they enter the building in the morning until the dismissal bell. This is the law.
You can reach your students through their school email address, or by calling the front office. If your student needs to reach you, they can send an email or call you from the office phone.
In addition, LISD middle schools will have the same policy for wireless headphones this year, such as AirPods. Students may NOT use them at school from the time they arrive until the dismissal bell. Families are encouraged to get wired headphones that can be plugged into your student's iPad for use when allowed by the teacher.
