On Monday, October 7, 2024, our school will remain on an E-Learning Day. While many schools across the district will be open on Monday, our school is one of seven that does not have full power and connectivity. In order for our school to be open and to receive students and staff, power and connectivity must be restored, and a full assessment of the facility must be conducted. Given this, we will operate virtually on Monday with an asynchronous E-Learning day. This means students will work independently to complete assignments and teachers will be available to assist remotely as needed. Students will receive additional guidance from their teachers on E-Learning assignments.

• No student will be penalized for inability to participate in any of the E-Learning Days throughout this emergency weather event. Extended or alternative opportunities to complete assignments will be provided to ensure students are marked present.

Once again, our school will operate on asynchronous E-Learning Day and remote workday for staff on Monday, October 7, 2024. The District continues to work closely with emergency management official across the county and is deploying all available assets to ensure a return to full in-person learning while maintaining a safe teaching and learning environment. An operational update will be provided no later than 2:00pm on Monday, October 7, 2024, regarding Tuesday operations.

We have 4 school days remaining in the 9 weeks. Please ensure that your student knows where they stand academically.

Thursday, October 10, 2024 is the last day of the nine weeks.

Friday, October 11, 2024 is a staff planning day. ( No School for Students)

Monday, October 14, 2024 is Fall Break. (No School for Staff and Students)

JCB will be hosting an Apprenticeship Information session on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, at Jenkins High School. JCB is the largest privately-owned construction equipment manufacturer in the world with 22 manufacturing facilities. The JCB Apprenticeship Program is open to all high school seniors interested in all areas of manufacturing operations. You will be trained for three years, followed by a continued employment agreement with JCB.

The Herschel V. Jenkins School Counseling Center will be hosting a Dual Enrollment Information Session on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, at 6:00 pm in the auditorium. Please make plans to attend if you are interested in learning more about how your child can earn high school credits while taking college courses through dual enrollment. Dual enrollment representatives from Georgia Southern University, Savannah State University, Savannah Technical College and Point University will be present at this information session.

Due to last weeks hurricane, we will have to postpone swim team tryouts by one week. Tryouts will be held Wednesday, Oct 16th, from 5:30 – 6:30 at the aquatic center: 7240 Sallie Mood Dr, Savannah. We will not have additional tryout dates this season.

Few reminders:

• You must have current physical on file by Thursday, Oct 10th in order to tryout. I will not accept paper copies or screen shots of physicals at the tryout.
• Arrive at least 10 minutes prior to tryouts in order to be ready to begin promptly at 5:30.
• Wear appropriate swim team attire. No 2 piece bathing suits for girls. Example can be seen at the bottom of the email.
• We do not provide goggles or swim caps.
• If you make the team, you’ll receive an email from me Friday morning, Oct 11th with more details about the team and upcoming swim meets.
