Good Evening Weymouth High School Community,

Friday, Juneteenth honors the end of slavery in the United States and is recognized as the longest-running African American holiday. It commemorates June 19, 1865, when news of emancipation reached enslaved people in Texas, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued. It is important to acknowledge and recognize this significant moment in our nation's history and the impact it continues to have today.

After graduating the Class of 2026 on Saturday, Monday we celebrated the rising seniors with their senior T-shirt distribution. We also visited Chapman to welcome our incoming Class of 2030. Our clubs joined us there, offering the incoming 9th grade students the chance to learn about and get involved in our wide variety of club opportunities.

Monday night was a wonderful night of celebrating the best of musical theater from the schools across Massachusetts! The WHTC crushed their medley for their nominated “Best Overall Production” of Mean Girls, just one of their 7 nominations. Congrats to all our nominees and to our state-wide winners for Lighting Design - Cooper McCarty and Natalie Yusam and Best Supporting Actor - Cameron Peacock as Damian.

The Chess Club held a year-end tournament this week featuring three rounds of Blitz Chess, with three minute rounds. Competitors played best-of-three matches in each round, advancing through the tournament bracket based on their performance. The tournament showcased strategic thinking, quick decision-making, and friendly competition. Players demonstrated excellent sportsmanship throughout the event, encouraging and supporting one another during every round.

The championship match was especially exciting, with the winner securing the title in a fast-paced final game. The tournament served as a great celebration of the club's accomplishments this year and helped generate enthusiasm for next year's Chess Club activities.

Last Thursday we celebrated the successes of our underclassmen. Students were recognized for their academic achievements and growth in all departments. Congratulations on the well-deserved recognition.

Congratulations to the Weymouth Girls Rugby team on an outstanding season and a hard-fought State Championship match against Belmont. Despite the intense heat, the Wildcats demonstrated incredible determination, toughness, and sportsmanship throughout a challenging and competitive game. Earning a spot in the State Final is a remarkable accomplishment and a testament to the hard work, dedication, and teamwork displayed by the players and coaches all season long. The entire Weymouth community is proud of what this team has achieved!

Crash Prevention Demonstration for Juniors – June 18

On Thursday, June 18, juniors will participate in a Crash Prevention Demonstration presented by The In Control Family Foundation in partnership with the Norfolk County District Attorney’s Office. During this passenger-only experience, state-certified instructors will provide ride-along demonstrations on school grounds to highlight the importance of seat belt use, safe driving speeds, staying focused in a vehicle, and the dangers of impairment, including alcohol, drugs, and drowsiness.

Since 2015, more than 10,000 Massachusetts students have participated in this program, which has been shown to positively impact attitudes toward speeding, distracted driving, and seat belt use. Families who do not want their student to participate should email Associate Principal Malissa Northup at malissa.northup@weymouthps.org by Wednesday, June 17.

Library Updates

There are over 100 library books that have been borrowed from the library and not yet returned. Please check and see that you don't have one of them! Books not returned by June 22 will become obligations. Any student who wishes to keep a book over the summer should discuss that option with Ms Buell. All of the summer reading books are available in the library. All summer reading ebooks are also available in Sora. From June 18 until the end of the summer most titles can be borrowed without a waitlist. Many titles have audiobooks or foreign language versions too. Highlights and notes can be taken in Sora and saved as a PDF or exported to your Google Drive. Please see the library website for more information about accessing books through Sora over the summer: https://whslibrary.weymouthps.org/library-home

Issues in the bathrooms

We are continuing to experience vandalism in our school bathrooms. This includes dispensers being pulled off the walls, soap being spread around, and items being flushed down toilets, which can damage plumbing and lead to bathroom closures. When this happens, bathrooms may be unavailable until repairs can be completed, which affects all students.

Please take a moment to speak with your child about the importance of taking care of shared spaces. We encourage students to be upstanders—if they see someone damaging property, they should report it to a trusted adult so the issue can be addressed promptly. Thank you for your support in helping us maintain a safe and respectful environment for everyone.

The last day of school is June 26, 2026. The last day of classes will be June 22nd and finals will be from June 23rd - 26th.

Final Exam Expectations

Here is the Final Exam Schedule.

  • Students are required to be present during their exam times.

  • Attendance will be taken at the exam.

  • If a student is absent unexcused for the Final Exam they will receive a 0 for the exam.

  • A missed exam must be made up as soon as possible, normally within two weeks, and only with an acceptable excuse, or it will be counted as a zero. Teachers and students will make arrangements for makeup exams.
