Principal's Corner-A Message from Principal Thomas
Principal’s Coffee Chat
I invite all parents to our first Principal's Coffee Chat on Friday, September 5, 2025, at 8:00 a.m. in the F.Ave Cafeteria. This session will give you the chance to meet some of our non-teaching staff members who play a vital role in supporting classrooms. We'll also revisit key feedback from the "Meet the Principal" session and share updates on our school goals for the year. I look forward to seeing you there!

Gifted Review Information
Important Information about Gifted Review
Each fall semester the gifted review team looks at existing student data to discuss students’ needs and determine if further evaluation for gifted identification is needed. If you are interested in having the team discuss your child’s needs, you may complete a Recommendation for Review Form and turn it in to the Gifted & Talented Specialist at your child’s school before Wednesday, October 1. No additional information is needed.
The Gifted & Talented Specialists for FAVE are Jennifer Broman-Fulks, Edwin Ellis, Stephanie Tolentino, and Charee Waugh. For more detailed information about the review process and to obtain a copy of the Recommendation for Review Form, please contact the Gifted & Talented Specialists for your school at jbroman-fulks@csdecatur.net, edellis@csdecatur.net, stolentino@csdecatur.net, or cwaugh@csdecatur.net or visit the following website: https://www.csdecatur.net/our-district-5f/departments/teaching-and-learning/gifted-and-talented-services (helpful tip: click on Gifted Services FAQs on the left of the website).

Girls on the Run

Registration for the fall Girls on the Run season is now open! Registration will remain open for teams with open spots through Sept. 11. Practice begins the week of Sept. 1 and will be Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday practices.

World of Asian Heritage
World of Asian Heritage (WOAH), named by our students, is a student-centered affinity group that provides a safe, supportive, and inclusive space for F.Ave students of Asian heritage. Scholars, families, and teachers gather to celebrate Asian heritage, cultivate a sense of belonging, and instill a solid foundation for cultural identity and self-identity.
Teachers and family members facilitate conversations where scholars find connections within their broader school community, build knowledge on a variety of perspectives, and examine present-day and historical issues that impact our communities through stories of solidarity and intersectionality. Please visit our interest link if you'd like to know more.

Join us for Walk and Roll: September 10th! 🚲👟🚲👟
Lace up your sneakers and roll into September with us! Our Walk & Roll to School days are back, and there’s no better time to enjoy the crisp fall mornings, spot changing leaves, and start the day with friends. Join us on Wednesday, September 10 to celebrate healthy habits, safe routes to school, and the fun of moving together. Let’s step into the school year—one stride (or pedal!) at a time!
Do your kids love biking to school? The Safe Routes to School Committee recently heard from Mr. Andrew Francis, the founder of the super successful bike bus at Parkside Elementary in Atlanta, about the benefits of starting a bike bus—a group of students (and parents) who ride to school together along a set route. It’s safe, social, and a whole lot of fun.
If volunteering at Walk & Roll or leading a bike bus sounds interesting, we’d love to hear from you. Please reach out to jillwandstrat@gmail.com.
