New Family Registration
A Message From Mr. Ladenburger
I have a two quick reminders and an update to kick off this week's newsletter.
- We had a fire drill today and all of our students did a wonderful job.
- Do not forget, we have no school on Monday, September 21.
- As a reminder, all visitors must check in with our front receptionist before being buzzed into the school, as part of our safety protocols. To keep our building secure, please do not hold the door open for anyone behind you. We know it can feel polite to hold the door, but every visitor must check in individually before entering. Thank you for helping us keep our students and staff safe!
Friday, October 2 - Early Release - 2:08 Dismissal
We will have an early release on Friday, October 2, with dismissal at 2:08 p.m. To help us plan, please let us know by Wednesday, September 30, if your child will be absent or picked up early that day. You can complete the absence form by clicking here.
4th and 5th Grade Parents - IAR Scores
The Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR) student reports are being mailed home. Please make sure you are on the lookout next week for those student reports.
Social Emotional Screener (SAEBRS)
Every year the universal screener SAEBRS (Social, Academic, and Emotional Behavior Risk Screener) is administered. At the Intermediate School all students participate in this screener by filling out a brief Google form with questions related to Social, Academic and Emotional behavior. All homeroom teachers also fill out a similar survey on each of their students. The data gathered from those surveys, along with information from staff members and parents, help to identify students in need of social emotional interventions, such as social emotional learning groups, etc. Please be aware that all 3rd-5th grade students will be filling out this survey during the week of September 28.

School Safety Parent University — September 30
Fremont School District 79, in collaboration with the Fremont PTO, is excited to once again offer Parent University programming to our families throughout the 2026-27 school year. Together, we are offering programming on a variety of topics related to the District's goals that might interest our parent community.
Please make plans to join us for our first in-person presentation of the year on Wednesday, September 30. We sincerely hope you take advantage of these opportunities to learn and connect with others.
Free childcare is offered for children ages 3+ for any in-person events. While it is not required to RSVP (see below for the link), we ask that you please do so if you intend to take advantage of the childcare opportunity. For more information, please visit our Parent University webpage.

Share Your Pet Photos for Our Cafeteria Slideshow!
We’re excited to introduce new interactive displays in our cafeteria! To make lunchtime engaging and positive, we’re creating a student-friendly slideshow featuring inspirational content, club announcements, and family pets. We’d love your help kickstarting our first feature—please use this form to upload up to 5 photos of your family members with family pets, class pets, or favorite animal adventures by September 22, 2026.
Attendance Matters - Building Strong Foundations Together
September is Attendance Awareness Month. Consistent daily routines foster predictability and social connection, lowering school anxiety and helping students thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
Illness Policy: Keep students home only for true illness. Children must be free of fever, vomiting, or diarrhea for 24 hours without medication before returning.
Planning Ahead: Please align family vacations with scheduled school breaks to maintain steady learning and peer connections.
We’re Here to Help: If your child experiences drop-off anxiety or distress, reach out to our team. We are eager to partner with you to support your child's overall well-being!
“Away for the Day” – Device Expectations
To reduce distractions and promote learning, FSD79 is continuing our “Away for the Day” initiative in alignment with our Portable Electronic Equipment Policy (Board Policy 7:190).
Key expectations:
Cell phones must be turned off and stored in a Chromebook bag or sleeve during the school day.
Smartwatches must be in school mode and used only to tell time.
Devices may not be used in classrooms, hallways, bathrooms, lunch, or recess.
Students may use the main office phone if they need to contact a parent or guardian.
Approved use may be permitted through a student’s IEP or 504 Plan.
We are aware of the new Illinois state law banning certain electronic devices within our schools and we will be working through this new guidance before its implementation for the 2027-2028 school year.
Absences need to be reported to the school by 9:00 a.m. by calling the attendance line or submitting the electronic absence form which is linked below.
- Attendance Line - 847-837-0437 option 2
Excused Absences Include
- Illness (including mental and behavioral health of the student)
- Medical/Therapeutic appointments
- Religious Holidays
- Family emergencies or civic events
- Parenting or safety-related concerns
NOTE: A doctor’s note must be presented to the school if a child is absent for more than three consecutive days due to illness.
Vacations
Vacations during school are discouraged and count as unexcused absences.
We encourage you to keep your child IN SCHOOL before and after field trips and special events.
