A Note from Mrs. Mathe
It has been a great week welcoming our Huskies back from Spring Break!
This week, one of our amazing APs, Mrs. Summerville, was named Principal of Bradley Elementary for next school year! While I am so sad that I won’t get to work right next door to her next year, I am so excited to have her on my feeder principal team and leading my previous school family at Bradley.
Congratulations, Mrs. Summerville!!!
This week, we also had the opportunity to celebrate some of our amazing Huskies with the Texas Standard Award. This honor is presented by the Superintendent and School Board to one teacher, one paraprofessional, and one student who exemplify strong character and leadership. Congratulations to Veronica Wentrcek, Wynter Morris, and Miraya Sanghvi on this well-deserved recognition!
Finally, we are also excited that construction on Woodbridge Cove is now complete! You may have noticed that a new 4-way stop has been added at the entrance to our carline. I wanted to share a quick reminder about traffic procedures:
-
When a traffic officer is present, please follow their directions when entering or exiting the carline. You do not need to stop at the signs, as they are directing traffic to keep things moving efficiently.
-
When a traffic officer is not present, please follow the 4-way stop as you would at any intersection and be sure to yield to anyone in the crosswalk.
Thank you for helping us keep our students and families safe!

Student Spotlight
Student Spotlight is a dedicated section in The Hines Herald that celebrates the amazing achievements, acts of kindness, talents, and positive contributions of our Huskies both inside and outside of school.
This space recognizes students who are reaching personal goals, excelling in academics, athletics, or the arts, serving others, or making a meaningful difference in our community. Our students are accomplishing incredible things, and Student Spotlight is one way we proudly share and celebrate those moments.
We encourage families to submit their child’s accomplishments so we can continue highlighting and honoring the many ways our Huskies shine. We look forward to featuring more of these inspiring stories!
Marcus Chen- 1st Grade
This week we are recognizing Marcus Chen for his hard work and determination! During a recent family trip, he showed incredible perseverance while learning and improving his skiing skills. Through dedication and practice, he made impressive progress and was able to confidently take on blue trails.
What makes this accomplishment even more special is the kindness he demonstrated along the way. He was thoughtful and supportive of his younger brother—helping him up when he fell and offering helpful reminders to keep trying.
His effort, positive attitude, and willingness to encourage others truly reflect the character we value in our Huskies. We are so proud of you!

WE NEED YOU!
Hines Elementary is excited to host our annual Diversity Celebration Night, and we would love for our families to be part of it!
We are inviting families to host a table representing a country, culture, or family tradition that is meaningful to you. This is a wonderful opportunity to share what makes your family unique through displays, artifacts, traditional clothing, music, photos, or small food samples (optional).
Our goal is to celebrate the many cultures and backgrounds that make Hines such a special community. Whether your family has deep roots in another country or simply wants to share a special tradition, we welcome your participation!
If you are interested in hosting a table, please sign up using the QR attached to the flyer or contact Mrs. Taylor-Ross for more information. We can’t wait to celebrate with you!

Garden Club Needs
Our Garden Club is getting ready to plant their spring garden! As they prepare for the new season, they are in need of a few supplies. If you are able, the Garden Club would greatly appreciate donations of garden soil (they need up to 50 bags). Their preferred soil is shown in attached here, but any garden soil donation would be helpful.
Thank you for supporting our Garden Club!

The Race to Grand Oaks
We are excited to introduce The Race to Grand Oaks, May 9, 2026, on the campus of Grand Oaks High School. A community fun run designed to bring together feeder schools and the surrounding community in a spirit of friendly competition, school pride, and unity. While the event highlights the Grand Oaks feeder pattern, all schools and community members are welcome and encouraged to participate.
The Race to Grand Oaks is produced by Together We Run, a local company run by moms of students in the Grand Oaks feeder zone who strive to foster community through competition.
Our goal is to build a stronger sense of community while supporting programs that benefit our students. Proceeds from the race will support the York and Grand Oaks cross country and track programs, helping provide opportunities and resources for student-athletes.
To encourage school participation, $3 from every registration will be donated back to the PTO of the feeder school selected at the time of registration. In addition, the top three feeder schools with the highest participation will receive an additional donation for their PE departments.
Participants can also help boost their school’s standing through donations to The Youth Alliance (www.tyall.org). Every $5 donated equals one vote for the donor’s feeder school of choice, giving schools even more opportunity to place in the top three while supporting an organization dedicated to serving youth in our community.
There is an active discount promo code (Grizzlies2026) for 10% off all registrations that is valid through March 8, 2026.
