BWMS Family Update

BWMS Community,

It was another fantastic week at the middle school and we will finish it off with our What I Need (WIN) Day activities this afternoon. Check out the photos below. As we close out the 3rd quarter on Wednesday of next week, this is a great time to check with your student about their growth and learning.

• The BWMS What I Need (WIN) Day was Today Friday 3/1/24. Ask your student how it went.
  
• Our BWMS Builders Club is hosting a book drive to support Little Red Libraries during the month of March. See the details below about this Advisory competition.
• Reminder that the Transportation App - StopFinder - Goes Live on Monday 3/4/24. See details below.
• We will have a modified schedule in the afternoon on Monday 3/4/24 due to the Humanities/Holocaust presentation for 8th grade students. We are happy to host Cindy Ebner and Lisa Rosen, daughters of Holocaust Survivor Murray Ebner, as they share stories with about resilience, remembrance, and positive responses.
  
• The end of the 3rd Quarter is Wednesday 3/6/24.
• The next BWMS Teen Night sponsored by our Student Council is Friday 3/8/24 from 6PM-8PM. Cost is $5 at the door.
• 3rd Quarter grades will be posted online in PowerSchool on Wednesday 3/13/24.
• Scheduling sheets for next school year will be sent home with 7th grade students on Friday 3/15/24 to communicate to families the course requests for next year. Stay tuned for more information.
  
• 7th Grade students received an informational sheet / opt out form for Healthy Life Choices Programming to be delivered by MS Wellness Teacher, Dr. Keating, on Monday 3/18/24 and Tuesday 3/19/24. Students will attend out of 7th grade science classes. Please find the form here. If your student is enrolled in or has taken 7th grade Wellness already, they will not need to participate in the program and will be provided an extension activity in science. Please note that you can sign and return the opt out form to the office or email JoshFrame@bwls.net if this is your family decision.
• Student council is planning the Staff vs Student Basketball Game and Spring Sports Recognition Pep Rally for Friday 3/22/24.
• The next schedule DC Payment is due to Prodigy Student Travel on Friday 3/22/24.
• Spring Break is 3/25/24 through 3/29/24. Students return to school on Tuesday 4/2/24.
• There is no school on Monday 4/1/24 in lieu of conference nights.

Big Walnut Local Schools will use a new parent app, Stopfinder, starting Monday, March 4. Stopfinder is the easy-to-use, all-in-one app that allows you to have the most accurate information about your student’s bus schedule at any time from anywhere. In addition to displaying your student’s transportation information, Stopfinder includes a private messaging feature allowing you to communicate directly with the Big Walnut Transportation Department. You can also create GeoAlerts for your student, which will notify you when the bus has arrived or departed from any location on your student’s route, including their assigned bus stop and school. GeoAlert Alert Zones can be created for individual students, allowing you to customize the Alert Zone based on their bus route.

The email address currently on file with the district will be used for the Stopfinder app setup. Please contact your school office if you need to change your primary email address before Friday, February 23.

Stopfinder can be downloaded for free from the App Store or Google Play. Stopfinder will require an invite and registration through the district before accessing your student’s transportation schedule. Please watch for a Stopfinder invitation, which will be emailed to your primary email address between Tuesday, February 27-Thursday, February 29.
