Time:

  • Kindergarten, 2nd, and 4th Grade Students - 11:40 am to 12:05 pm

⏰ Morning Routine

  • Supervision on the blacktop begins at 7:30 AM. Students should not arrive before 7:30 AM.

  • At 7:30 AM, students will come inside the building and report to their indoor recess locations. Staff will be at the front doors letting students in.

  • The first bell rings at 7:40 AM.

  • Students are expected to be in their classrooms and ready to learn by 7:45 AM when the second bell rings. Students not in their seats at this time will be marked tardy.

If your student arrives after 7:45 AM, please drop them off at Door 1. They will enter through the office, check in, and receive a late pass. Parents/guardians may say goodbye to students outside at Door 1.

🚶 Dismissal — 2:45 PM

  • If you need to visit the building, please ring the doorbell at Door 1 to be let in. This includes before or after school.

  • Do not enter the building while students are arriving or leaving.

  • Parents/guardians may not walk students to their classrooms.

Cold Weather Reminder - Dressing for the Outdoors

Winter is here! We want every student to stay safe, warm, and comfortable while enjoying fresh air and play. Here’s what you need to know to help your child be ready for chilly weather:

👟 What We Do:

  • We have outdoor recess before school and twice during the day whenever weather allows.

  • Students play outside if the temperature is 10°F or above, or the wind chill is above 0°F.

  • We stay indoors if it’s below 10°F, the wind chill is 0°F or below, or if it’s raining.

🧥 What Your Student Needs:

  • Coat or warm jacket: Required when the temperature is 50°F or below. (Even days in the 40s count!)

  • Snowpants & boots: Needed to play in the field or playground when snow is present.

  • Extra clothes: With wet snow and soggy play areas, a spare set of clothes in backpacks is a great idea!

⚠️ If your child forgets snowpants or boots:
They will stay on the blacktop during snowy playtimes.

Need help with winter gear?
Please call the office at 920-424-0165, we’re happy to assist!

Thank you for partnering with us to keep every student warm, safe, and ready for outdoor fun as weather permits! ❄️😊

Art update
zoom_out_map Show in original size

A message from Ms. Keefe

In the art room this month, we are still working on pieces of art for the black light art show in March.

Kindergarten students are working on Neon Hand Collages inspired by Andy Warhol.

1st graders are working on large scale body collages inspired by Keith Haring.

2nd graders are still working on their painted circle collages, now using neon oil pastels.

3rd graders are working on their neon mandalas, now using India Ink over their neon paint.

4th and 5th graders are working on painting their Picasso inspired paper mache masks.

We are also all currently learning about an artist named Kehinde Wiley, he is the first black artist chosen to paint a previous president's portrait for the white house. We have learned what “practicing artist” means, and how Wiley is still creating art as we learn about him. We also dove deeper into understanding Wiley’s style and why he paints black men and women from all around the world, representing their community in a way that has never been done through professional and contemporary art before.

Greetings! Here is what is happening in the music room:

All grades are working on preparing their songs for the upcoming concert! Here is a reminder of our

Spring Concert: Tuesday, April 14th starting at 6:00 pm at Alberta Kimball Auditorium at Oshkosh West High School. More details and student arrival times to come.

The theme of our concert is "Timeless Tunes," with students sharing many songs that we all know and love, and a few that may take you back in time! Along with learning the concert songs, this is what each grade has been doing:

K: learning how to use our singing voices more and singing So-Mi songs

1: learning the story of Peter and the Wolf, which introduces instruments as characters in the story.

2: working on activities and games that reinforce rhythms

3: working on activities and games that reinforce rhythm; starting Ukuleles

4th & 5th: working on music reading skills; starting recorders soon. 5th is working on reading and performing tone chime music

A message from Mr. Schneider

Dear Parents and Families,
We are rolling right through February in gym class, and it has truly been the talk of the school! Students in grades 1–5 are having an absolute blast during our roller skating unit. It has been so much fun watching their confidence grow in each class.
Beyond the excitement, students are learning and practicing important skills such as balance, coordination, spatial awareness, and safe movement. Safety continues to be our top priority. All students are using appropriate safety equipment, following clear routines, and demonstrating responsibility while skating. I am incredibly proud of how well they are supporting one another and staying mindful on the gym floor.
Later this month, our 4th and 5th-grade students will begin our Human Growth and Development lessons. These lessons are designed to provide age-appropriate, factual information in a respectful and supportive environment. The goal is to help students better understand the physical and emotional changes that occur during this stage of development.
These conversations are beneficial because they:
  • Promote healthy self-awareness and confidence
  • Encourage respectful understanding of themselves and others
  • Provide accurate information in a safe, structured setting
  • Support social and emotional growth
The boys in 4th and 5th grade will receive instruction from me, and the girls will receive instruction from their grade-level teachers. We approach these lessons with care, professionalism, and sensitivity to ensure students feel comfortable and supported.
As always, please feel free to reach out if you have any questions. Thank you for your continued support of our physical education program!
Sincerely,
TJ

A message from Mrs. Boettcher and Mrs. Vollbrecht

Having stamina for something means being able to stick with something for periods of time. This stamina, or endurance, builds strength. Stamina can apply to lots of different areas, such as exercise or painting. It can also apply to reading.

Teachers often think about a student's reading stamina. Reading stamina is a child's ability to focus and read independently for long-ish periods of time without being distracted or without distracting others. Reading stamina is something that parents can help students develop. Here's how:

  1. Vary the way the reading is done. Parents can think about this in terms of having their child "read to himself, read to someone, and listen to reading." Some combination of the three should make up the reading time, especially for new or struggling readers.

  2. Choose "just right" books. If your child is at a stage of being able to read alone, help him choose books that he is able to read independently. This means he should be able to decode almost every word in the book correctly. In this situation, avoid using books that are too difficult to read alone. If your child will be reading with you, choose books that are lively and engaging.

  3. Set reasonable goals. Most toddlers and preschoolers find it difficult to sit for long periods of time, even with the most engaging book! When starting out, limit book time to just a few minutes and work up from there. For elementary aged readers, consider starting with 10-15 minutes of reading time, and work up from there. Add a few minutes to your reading time every week or so.

  4. Celebrate progress. Without getting too caught up on the number of minutes spent reading, celebrate the time that is spent reading. Share your favorite parts of books read, plan the next visit to the library, and share progress with other family members.

Spending longer periods of time reading means fewer interruptions and more time reading what you love. As your child moves into higher grades, having reading stamina will help your child navigate the longer texts and assignments. Using these tips can help develop more stamina in your reader.

Tech and Media Update

A message from Mrs. Kese

Make Reading at Home a Habit!

Here are a few ways you can help create a reading habit in your children:

  • Set a weekly or monthly goal. Make sure to reward your child when they achieve their goal.
  • Keep books in every room of the house, in the car, and in backpacks and purses. Children can read while driving to grandma’s or while waiting at a doctor’s appointment…you get the idea!
  • Set an example. Children who see their parents reading a magazine, newspaper or novel are more likely to become avid readers themselves.
  • Comment on a book. Even if it is a book that you are reading by yourself, commenting on the story while spending time together creates interest and invites children to find their own stories.
  • Read the book, watch the movie. Encourage them to read the book of a movie that will soon be in theaters and promise to take them to the movies when they are done reading it. After the movie, compare and contrast just for fun!

Digital Citizenship Focus: Online Relationships and Cyberbullying

Tips for Parents

Here are some ways you can help your child navigate the online world safely:

1. Talk about cyberbullying: Explain that it means repeated, unwanted mean or hurtful words or actions online.

2. Stay involved: Ask about your child's online activities, like who they talk to in games or on websites.

3. Practice responses: Help your child think of ways to respond to or exit from uncomfortable online situations.

4. Encourage kindness: Teach your child to support others who might be experiencing bullying.

5. Take breaks: Help your child step away from devices if online drama becomes overwhelming.

6. Know what to do: Make sure your child knows the steps to take if they experience cyberbullying, including saving evidence and telling a trusted adult.
