Current Attendance Rates @ Hosford
Dear Families,
Please take note of our current attendance rates at Hosford Middle School posted above. Our school improvement plan was to increase the percentage of students with good or acceptable attendance from 75% to 80%, but we are currently 10% lower than previous years.
Good or acceptable attendance is 90% attendance or more. Please check your child's attendance. Below are a list of reasons to keep your child home. Otherwise, please send them to school. We need them here!
This week our Black, Latino, and Greater Middle Eastern Student Unions will be traveling to Oxbox Natural Area Park and meeting with People of Color Outdoors on Tuesday, May 12th. Then, our 7th grader will be traveling to Oxbow Natural Area Park on either Thursday or Friday.
We'll also be welcoming our incoming 6th grade families on Wednesday evening at 6 pm for 5th Grade Family Night, and AVID family night is Thursday, May 14th from 5 - 6 pm.
Have a great week,
Jill Liddle, Principal

This resource tells what learning activities were assigned in each class. It is a great way to check on assignments with your child. Middle school is a time when students need help developing the routine of reflection and organizing materials. This resource is your support for those conversations.

Outdoor School Tip
As the time gets closer to outdoor school, continue to prepare you 6th grader for this awesome experience. Previewing the site (online), going over packing lists, talking about what to look forward to are all good ideas. Finally, encourage independence now for things like keeping track of their belongings, brushing teeth, getting dressed, and everything else. Please reach out to your student's science teacher or counselor with any last questions.
7th Grade End of Year Field Trip
7th Grade Cinemagic Trip!
On Friday, June 5th Hosford 7th graders will celebrate a year of hard work by walking up to Cinemagic on Hawthorne to see the movie Frozen. We have enough money to purchase one small bag of popcorn per student. Cinemagic is graciously donating the space to us, and they will be selling concessions to kids. If your student would like to purchase concessions, please send them with money to do so.
Students will leave Hosford around 1:00 pm, walk to Cinemagic, enjoy their movie, and return to school around 3:30 pm. If you are interested in chaperoning, please reach out to Ms. Criswell: ecriswell@pps.net
Required: All students participating in the field trip will need a current Walking Field Trip Permission Form signed. Please complete this as quickly as possible. Only about 60 of the 170 students currently have one on file.
6th and 7th Grade Parents Needed for 8th Grade Promotion

We would love to have a few sixth and seventh grade parents who would be willing to help with this event so our eighth grade families can be fully present for their student.
Set up starts at 5:30 pm and clean up ends at 8:30 pm. The event takes place at the Cleveland High School Cafeteria.

Hi Hosford families! It's been a great year for reading at Hosford, but we are getting close to our due date for all library books--May 22! Fines for lost books (replacement fees) can only be paid in SchoolPay. We are also happy to receive another copy of the same book. PTSA Help Needed
Dear Families,
Thank you for the support you have given us this year! We are so pleased to have been able to fund staff grants that directly impact our students' school experience. We are grateful to the parents who have stepped up to make the PTSA happen. We will miss those whose students are moving on to high school and are excited to meet the families of the incoming 6th graders.
As we look to next year we are in need of filling our board again so that we can again fund staff grants and hold teacher appreciation events.
The following positions are open for the 26-27 school year:
President
Vice President
Secretary
Staff appreciation chair
Fundraising chair
Communications chair
Member(s) at large
Without volunteers to take on these positions, we will not be able to have a PTSA and thus the school and our students will lose the support we have been giving them. We recognize that times are tough and many of us are overwhelmed with our to-dos yet we stand strong in the belief that together we can make the load lighter and take actions to make our students' world a bit better.
We meet about once a month during the school year and host 3 general meetings. Linked HERE you will find a breakdown of the tasks and time commitment of each role. This is a great opportunity to stay involved with your student’s school and play an active role in creating a positive and supportive community! We are also flexible – something is better than nothing and we value each other's time. Please reach out if you are interested or have any questions at ptsahosford@gmail.com
We will have our final PTSA General Meeting in the Hosford Library on Tuesday May 12th from 6:00-7:30 (Virtual link will be provided soon).
With Gratitude,
Jamie Lyle
