Every Student. Every Day.

Message from the Principal
It’s always exciting to see all the great things happening at Preston! Our sports and athletics are in full swing, clubs and activities are keeping students engaged, and our building is full of opportunities for students to learn, grow, and connect. Be sure to check out the athletics section of this newsletter to read about all the amazing things our student-athletes are accomplishing!
A personal highlight of my week was being invited by Mr. Williams to join his Outdoor Education class as students put their cooking skills to the test using a camping stove! It was fun to see students learning hands-on skills, working together, and enjoying an experience that takes learning beyond the traditional classroom.
It was also wonderful to see so many of you at parent-teacher conferences! I appreciate the time you took to connect with our teachers, celebrate your student’s progress, and continue building the partnerships that help our students thrive.
There is so much to celebrate at Preston, and I feel incredibly fortunate to be part of a community that shows up for our students in so many ways. Thank you for your continued support and partnership as we work together to help every student, every day.
It was another great week to be a Preston Puma!
Honored to be your Principal

Science Olympiad Coaches!
We are looking for Division B Science Olympiad coaches at Preston Middle School! You would meet weekly with a small group of highly motivated students to help them prepare for their competition events. If you enjoy curious kids, creative challenges, and the occasional “Wait… why didn’t that work?” moment, we need you!
Have a nosy neighbor who needs something to do besides monitoring your weeds? Send them our way! We have scientific investigations that could use that level of dedication. 😂
Have a grandparent, uncle, aunt, parent, college student, coworker, or retired friend who loves science, building things, solving problems, or explaining how stuff works? They could be a great coach!
Parents make the best coaches! You already have experience answering endless questions, troubleshooting problems, and reminding kids to read the directions. That is practically the job description!
You do not need to know every branch of science. Bring your curiosity, enthusiasm, and willingness to help kids learn. You might even learn something yourself—and finally have an audience that appreciates your very specific knowledge!

Interested? Contact Mrs. Loyd at Preston eloyd@psdschools.org , or send this to someone who would make a great coach! Our kids are amazing and want to learn. Help us give them the coaches they deserve! 🩵💜

We will go over what the club is, how try-outs work, and the Colorado State Science Bowl competition. Hope to see you there!

SRO Corner
Dear Poudre School District Families,
This month, the School Resource Officer team would like to speak to you about the safety of E-Bike/E-Motor transportation. There have been several incidents involving students and children in our community. We believe parent awareness around the safety and laws regarding these modes of transportation is the first step in ensuring our children are safe.
Below is a graphic of what is and is not allowed when it comes to electronic modes of transportation. We would like to note, any device classified as a low-powered scooter requires a driver’s license and insurance, and any device classified as an electric motorcycle requires a motorcycle license and insurance. In addition, any device in the class 3 E-Bike category requires the rider to be over 16 on a roadway.
There are several questions when it comes to these modes of transportation. The best advice we have is to research and ask questions BEFORE purchasing one for your children.
Have a great month,
SRO Meg Savage

Attendance Matters!
Our school is a community where your presence matters! We strive to create a welcoming and engaging environment where you can feel valued and supported. Your contributions are important, and you belong in PSD. We want to help you be at school every day, so reach out if you are facing barriers to attendance.
Being at school all day and being on time are important habits. Students should miss no more than 9 days of school each year to stay engaged, successful, and on track to graduate with options. If there are barriers keeping you from regular and timely attendance, we’re here to help.
FACT: Students who miss fewer than 2 days in September continue to average fewer than 2 days absent each month. We are here to partner with you in setting and reaching your attendance goals. Let us know how we can help!
When you login to ParentVUE or StudentVUE, it is easy to see your attendance summary. Schedule a time every month to check this attendance summary. Be informed and set your goals for attendance.

Sign-Up to Help with Spirit Cart
Wednesdays During Both Lunches Beginning September 16th
One of the fun and easy ways parents can help at Preston is through our Spirit Cart. The Preston Parent Association (PPA) sponsors the cart. We sell little toys, gum, squishies, etc. The kids love it. This year the PPA is going to try something new and have the cart open every wednesday. We hope that consistency will make it easier for kids to remember that it's open. That means we need more volunteers! Please reach out to PPA President Krista if you have any questions at ppopreston@gmail.com.

Teacher Snack Drive
We love to show our appreciation for teachers by feeding them. Our Preston Parents Association supplies teachers with snacks to keep on hand for meetings. Please bring in snacks over the next few weeks. Sodas, chocolates and individually wrapped snacks are all welcome. Just leave them with the office. Thank you!
Join the Preston Parent Association (PPA)
The Preston Parent Association is an easy way for parents to help our awesome school and build community with one another. Our meetings are all on zoom, on the second Wednesday of the month from 7-8pm. They are not required, but we would love to have many of you there.
Lots of our members are full time working parents and we make it as easy as possible to participate. In addition to the monthly meetings we have fun community events planned and several ways parents can volunteer with the school. To join, simply fill out the form at the link below and venmo a suggested donation of $10. Don't have venmo? Leave a check made out to Preston Parent Association in our mailbox at the school.
