STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT
2023 NJHS Ceremony
The Ellmore H. Slaybaugh Chapter of the National Junior Honor Society inducted new 7th and 8th grade members on May 31st. It was a beautiful ceremony celebrating the accomplishments of the new 7th and 8th grade members. Congratulations to our new members and are 8th graders who received the Presidential Academic Award of Excellence. We are so proud!
Academic Excellence Awards
Three students from Fernwood Middle School were recognized during the Atlantic County Academic Excellence Brunch held at the Carriage House in Galloway Township. The is annual event recognizes the top three students graduating from county middle and high schools.
Congratulations to Anastassia Mytnik, Addison Lambert, and Serenity Wu!
7th Grade Trip to Corson's Inlet
Students from Mr. Zompa's science class enjoyed field trips to Corson's Inlet State Park sponsored by the Great Egg Harbor River Council. Students performed water tests on the surrounding waterways and were able to both comb the beach and wade in the bay to collect species to identify, all while learning about the importance of biodiversity. Some students will be coming back to volunteer at Corson's Inlet this summer. Great job Green Team!
Beautiful Butterflies
The 6th grade ELL class has been doing a STEAM project of hatching butterflies and recording daily observations about the life cycle of the butterfly and the process of metamorphosis. They have successfully hatched five Painted Lady butterflies.

Messages of Hope
“Kindness Rocks” project
We were excited to receive our Resiliency grant from AtlantiCare Healthy Schools, Healthy Children to help improve the overall climate of our school with mindful activities. One of our projects we were able to complete with the help of this grant was the “Kindness Rocks” project.
Our 8th grade Convocation classes were invited to the library with Mrs. Dragovits, Mrs. Poupard Mrs. Mento and Mrs. Errickson to paint rocks with words of kindness and positive affirmations to be left around the green spaces as part of their legacy to Fernwood Avenue Middle School. Students were shown a short video clip of what was expected and given instructions from counselors. Their task was to create a message of kindness or positive affirmation to be written on and decorate their rock with paint pens.
