Excused Absences Reminder
A reminder that if a student is signed out by a parent/guardian for any portion of the school day, it is our expectation that they are off-campus. It is against school protocol for a parent/guardian to excuse a student from a class to complete work in the library. In the case of an emergency, we want to make sure that all students are accounted for.
GCSAAP Opportunities
This summer there are two outdoor education opportunities for students in collaboration with Choice Pass:
- Wilderness First Aid (WFA) - short version of the Wilderness First Responder course.
- Outdoor Youth Leadership - 6 days of outdoor activities (hiking, climbing, rafting, fishing, and a night of camping)
Medication Forms
If your child needs medication administered during the school day. Please bring the completed form with physician signature and prescription medication in appropriately labeled container to the school.
School Fees
CBCS uses MyPaymentsPlus to accept payments for any applicable school fees (athletics, extra items at lunch, the technology fee, after school programming, etc.)

CBCS Summer College Tour
The annual College Tour for high school students will be June 11th-13th. We will visit CC, UCCS, CU, CSU and DU. This trip gives students an excellent overview of colleges in Colorado and allows students to get a feel for public, private, large and small schools. The cost is $350 and includes transportation, hotel room, two breakfasts and a lunch. Registration is limited so please sign up to reserve your spot! College Tour Sign Up and then pay the fee in MPP under Activities. Reach out to Jennifer with questions.
Course Registration for the 2025-2026 School Year
MS and HS students will register for classes during the week of March 31st. Once students have registered, families are encouraged to review student choices in PowerSchool and make any necessary adjustments. All requests must be finalized by Friday, April 11th. Also, please note:
For complete program and course descriptions, visit The School Website. Choose Guidance, and then Middle School Program, High School Program, or Pathways Course Catalogue.
An AP Enrollment Form is required for any high school student wishing to enroll in AP. Students will not be placed in AP without this form. This form must be submitted by April 11th.
Students who wish to complete a core class online through Pathways must request to do so no later than May 1st. All online course requests must be submitted to the counseling office. Because all in-person core classes are year-long commitments, students may not switch to core online classes at the semester.

Logistics
Student Pick-Up During the School Day
In an effort to alleviate disruptions to classroom learning, if you need to pick up your child during the school day, please do your best to utilize a passing period. We understand that this may not always be possible, but when it is, it really benefits our learning environment. Check the bell schedule HERE. Thanks for your help and support!
Attendance
Please email CBSSattendance@gunnisonschools.net if your student will be absent or needs to miss any classes. Per the student handbook, please note that students who are more than 25 minutes late to class without a call or email from a guardian will be marked as an unexcused absence for that period.
Powerschool
School Messenger: Text Messaging
Our school utilizes the SchoolMessenger system to deliver text messages, straight to your mobile phone with important information about events, school closings, safety alerts and more. You can participate in this service by sending a text message of "yes" to our school's short code number 67587. You can also opt out of these messages at any time by simply replying to one of the messages with "stop." SchoolMessenger is compliant with the Student Privacy Pledge, so you can rest assured that your information is safe and will never be given or sold to anyone.
Halo Smart Sensor Monitors
We take safety seriously at CBSS and we are committed to providing a safe, substance free school. The Halo Smart Sensor not only measures air quality (like CO2 and NO2), but can also detect nicotine and THC vapes. These tools are present to help us meet our goal of ensuring a substance free school. If you would like to have more information, or have questions, please contact the office to set up a meeting with Mr. McCune, or email him at smccune@gunnisonschools.net with your questions.
