Mustang Update
We hosted our Student Success Meetings for our students and parents on Wednesday night, February 25th and had a fantastic turnout. The students were able to share with their parents their current grades, take a look at what their class schedule will look like in the fall, and peek ahead at the upcoming state assessments and their incentives. With any remaining time, the parents and students could then meet with any of our staff about where they were at as we look ahead to the end of the third nine weeks, spring break and, believe it or not, the start of the last grading period of the 2025-2026 school year. It is important that we keep our focus on finishing the third nine weeks in strong fashion.
Our FFA Chapter and advisor, Ms. Carrie Husband and our student teacher, Ms. Ella Pachta, organized and helped us celebrate National FFA Week at Valley Heights. During the week, the students participated in trivia games, contests and daily themes. On Wednesday they hosted their annual pancake feed to a very large crowd and then topped off the day by serving grilled burgers to a very appreciative staff! Thank you FFA! Thursday was "Drive Your Tractor to School Day" and there were some pretty impressive machines in our front parking lot. We would like to congratulate all of our chapter members and advisors on a very successful year so far and wish them well as we move towards our state convention and competitions.
We hosted our first round sub-state game Thursday night, 2/26, as we took on the Washington County Tigers and came out with a win of 67 to 30. We will host a second round game on Tuesday night! Some things to consider as you plan your visit to support our Mustangs! Since this is a KSHSAA sponsored post-season event the admission price will be $8 for adults and $6 for students in grades K-12. No passes will be accepted at the gate and only those who are on the pass list will be admitted at no charge. Since it is a single game we will have a smaller concession stand with cold drinks, popcorn, nachos, candy and hot dogs.
Parents – as we enter the spring sports season we also begin to provide dual sports activities for our high school students. We have boys and girls track and field, baseball, softball and golf. Students can, if they so desire, participate in two sports activities in the spring. The student must fill out a form informing the school of their intentions and stating which sport will be their primary activity. Great care should be taken as you discuss this with your child. Dual sports offer additional opportunities for our students but also requires additional practice time! These forms must be properly signed and submitted prior to the first practice sessions.
Our 8th grade students had the chance to visit Highland Western Campus this past week to get a better idea of what is offered through this program. The visit also gives them an idea of how they want to build their class schedule if they are thinking about joining HCC-West for their junior and senior years. Mrs. Gallimore and Ms. Toerber were the sponsors for this event.
Parents – Remember Spring Break is during the week of March 16th through March 20th.
Go Mustangs!

🎓🎓🎓SENIOR CORNER🎓🎓🎓
Senior of the Week - Kinsley Gillig
Rooted In Faith
Born on October 25, 2007, to Jarrod and Jami Gillig, Kinsley Jean Gillig has grown up surrounded by family, faith, and community. She has a close bond with her older brother, Dakota, who has always been a role model and supporter in her life.
Kinsley’s favorite Bible verse, “'For I know the plans I have for you,' declares the Lord, 'plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future,'” Jeremiah 29:11, serves as a guiding reminder that her path is directed by faith and purpose.
When she’s not in the classroom, Kinsley can often be found spending time with friends, cheering on the K-State Wildcats, or relaxing at home.
After graduation, Kinsley plans to attend Kansas State University, majoring in Agricultural Business with a minor in Economics. She looks forward to a future that encompasses her love for agriculture and animals with her strong sense of family and faith. One day, she hopes to build a life filled with purpose, fulfillment, and the joy of motherhood.
Kinsley states her mom is the most influential person in her life. “She is my rock and biggest inspiration.” Among her many memories from Valley Heights, one that stands out is the five days she spent in Dodge City for state basketball sophomore year, an experience she says she’ll never forget.
Few people know that Kinsley once lived in Canada, a part of her life that changed her outlook and gave her appreciation for new experiences. She’s especially proud of her success showing calves, a reflection of the dedication and hard work she puts forth each and every day.
An active member of 4-H and the Kansas Junior Hereford Association, Kinsley has also taken on numerous leadership roles throughout high school. She has served as Class StuCo Representative, Student body Vice President, FACS Secretary, and multiple officer positions in FFA-including President, Treasurer, and Reporter. Throughout high school Kinsley has been involved in the All School Play, Basketball, and FFA for four years; KAYS, Art Club, and FACS for three years; Mustang Mentor two years; Cheer, Band, and Journalism for one year.
When asked what advice she’d give to younger students, Kinsley says, “Enjoy what you do, and if you don’t love it, it’s okay to stop.” As graduation nears, she hopes to be remembered as someone who was kind, hardworking and genuine.
