FFA Shines Brightly at State Convention

Members of the Sisseton FFA chapter represented SHS well at their state convention held in Brookings this last week. Pictured above are the senior members who earned their State FFA degrees, the highest honor the South Dakota FFA Association can bestow upon its members. Recipients have dedicated several years to developing their Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) programs, building leadership skills, and contributing to their communities through service and involvement.

Standing out in the competition area of the convention were Chesnie Anderson and Wylder Dahl, who both brought home first place in their respective categories of the AgriScience contest. Additionally, the Dairy Cattle Evaluation team of Jackson, Bennel, Cody, Aykre brought home 4th place, while Grayson placed 12th individually in Poultry Evaluation.

In between contests and convention sessions, chapter members also helped package 7,000 meals for the Meals of Hope program and toured the Ag Heritage Museum.

Prepping for Prom

How many junior boys does it take to hang a curtain?

No one knows...but word on the street is that the prom committee's hard work is paying off and the prom decorations are beautiful! The juniors and their advisors, Ms. Titze and Mrs. DeSpiegler have been working hard all week, while couples are getting ready to dance the night away in the Ben Reifel gymnasium on Saturday.

Be sure not to miss Grand March, Saturday night at 8pm.

Paella Party

Mrs. Nordquist's Spanish I students turned the classroom into a "restaurante" this last week as they learned how to prepare and then enjoyed Spanish tapas (appetizers), drinks, and a main course of paella--a saffroned rice, meat, and vegetable dish. Learning some Spanish kitchen vocab, culinary skills, and trying new foods made for a fun way to celebrate as the year begins to wrap up.

FCCLA chapter members and some of their friends celebrated Earth Day on April 22 by picking up trash both in and outside the school building.

On the "Cutting" Edge

Biology students had a week of dissections. They dove into learning more about the ins ands outs of a crayfish, grasshopper, and Ascaris (a small intestinal roundworm), getting an up close look at their structures and systems. Students have recently been studying the 11 systems of the human body and the taxonomy of living things, and this hands-on activity helped students experience some of that information in real life.
