Message from Principal Parravano
It’s been a couple of weeks since we last published our South Spotlight. With the snow days and final exams, it just kind of got away from me.
As we move into the second semester, the administrative team will be taking a closer look at student data—especially for students who may be struggling or at risk of failing a class. The purpose of this work is simple: to make sure students have what they need to be successful.
When students aren’t doing well, there can be many reasons. Sometimes students need additional academic or emotional supports. Other times, the challenge may be related to organization, attendance, motivation, or effort. Often, it’s a mix of all of the above. Our goal isn’t
We encourage parents to have open, supportive conversations with their child, such as:
How are things going in your classes?
What feels hard right now?
Do you feel like you’re doing your best?
Is there something you need help with?
These conversations don’t need to be heavy or confrontational. Often, they’re most effective when they come from curiosity and care. We also want students to know the effort they put into school matters. When students do their best, they keep more options open for their future—whether that’s college, career training, the military, or the workforce. Strong habits and persistence create more pathways later on. Our staff is committed to supporting students and partnering with families every step of the way.
Here’s to a week of leading, learning, and growing!

Student Shout Out
Shoutout to Betsy and John Ropke. In December, they participated in Wreaths across America. The mission of this project is to “Remember the fallen. Honor those who serve. Teach the next generation the value of freedom.” Betsy and John traveled to Arlington Cemetery and helped lay thousands of wreaths on the graves of our service men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice. Kudos!
Assistant Principal's Message....
A Great Start to Second Semester at South....
Dear South Families,
We have had a great start to the second semester! As Assistant Principals, we are here to support you and your student. Please feel free to email us at any time if you have questions or need assistance.
This week, students will be participating in class meetings. During these meetings, we will review South expectations and discuss important upcoming events, including testing information for juniors and events such as prom and graduation for our seniors.
This week is also the final week for course selection for students currently in grades 9–11. Please be sure to read the email sent by Ms. Walsh-Sahutske and take time to review course selections with your student.
South offers many opportunities for students, and this is a great time to sit down together—whether at the table or over a cup of coffee—to talk about class interests, graduation requirements, and opportunities within our Honors and AP programs.
We appreciate your continued support and partnership in keeping South a great place to be.
Warm regards,
The South Assistant Principals

STUDENT ACTIVITIES/CLUBS
Students.
Time to join a club! Most clubs at South are open to new members year-round; so grab a friend, stop by a meeting, and find something that fits your vibe. It’s a great way to meet new people and get involved now that your season’s over.
Freshmen, if you skipped clubs earlier because things felt hectic; now’s the perfect time to try one out!
Check out the updated club list for students below.
(Parents — here’s your version too! Yours doesn’t include student contacts, thanks for understanding!)
And don’t forget: the annual Student Activities Fee helps keep all our awesome clubs running. If that’s ever a hardship, just reach out to your counselor or myself; we’ve got you!
