Elementary Fall Parent Conference Reminders
Monday, October 14 is official Fall Conference Day in Austin ISD. Teacher may choose to hold all conferences on this day or spread them out throughout the week/month. There will be a meeting moratorium the week of October 14 which means there will be a pause on PLC, ARD, 504, CST meetings.
General conference reminders (will be shared with all staff as well):
Every student will receive a Fall conference with the teacher. We prefer all conferences to be in person. If the parent cannot make the conference, you may offer a virtual option, but it will need to be done over Google Meets. The district is ending their partnership with Zoom on Sept 27. Here's a good video to show you how to use Google Meets: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7KVZvUxQXMA
If you are holding a conference after 3:30pm, the office is closed. You will need to make arrangements with the family to let them in by meeting them at a door. This goes for meetings held before 7:30am as well. Ensure that both parents/caregivers are invited.
Invite the Special Education case manager to the conference.
Invite a counselor to the conference if needed.
Every student must have a completed conference form that you keep in your files. This is required documentation by Austin ISD. If there are academic or behavioral concerns, you will need to document it in eCST.
Components of Fall conference:
Connect with caregivers. Start with student strengths and celebrations.
Data to share: MAP Growth, prior year STAAR scores (if applicable), TX KEA/CLI, any important in class or grade level assessment data. If the student is working on a personal development goal, be sure to share data you have in this area, too.
Provide strategies and activities for families to work with their child at home. This could be working to improve Math fact fluency, reminders about reading, etc.
Share ways for families/caregivers to be involved in your classroom or on campus.
End your meeting with positives/celebrations.

Safety on Campus
In light of the recent tragic school shooting in Georgia, we must continue to be as vigilant as ever with safety on campus.
Continued reminders:
1. Doors are shut and locked at all times. No exceptions. No propped door ever.
2. NEVER allow students to open classroom doors for people they don't know.
3. Active supervision. Make sure every single child under your wing is accounted for. Walk behind the class or beside the class so you can keep watchful eyes.
4. Playground and recess- all adults spread out to ensure we have eyes on all play areas.
5. See something, say something! Report all suspicious activity to admin and to the office. Never allow an individual to roam hallways without a visitors sticker.
