NOTES FROM THE PRINCIPAL
We hope you and your family have a wonderful holiday season and enjoy the extra time together. It has been such an amazing school year so far, with most activities resuming in a fairly normal way. We can’t wait to see all of the memories to come during the 2021-22 school year.
As many of us will be seeing family and friends, and some even traveling, we want to remind everyone the importance of monitoring for symptoms of COVID-19. When school is back in session, if your child has symptoms, please keep them home from school and call us for next steps. We want 2022 to start off in the safest and healthiest way possible.
Cheers to the holidays and a new year!
Ms. Aulisa
WINTER BREAK IS FINALLY HERE!!
SOCIAL WORK WINTER RESOURCES
INCLEMENT WEATHER PLAN FOR ALBRIGHT MIDDLE SCHOOL
When we have an inclement weather day, we historically have had a day off from school and would make the day up at the end of the school year. However, to maintain instructional continuity, District 48 will be providing remote instruction when we have an inclement weather day during the 2021-2022 school year.
We will follow the guidelines and schedules below: Guidelines for Remote Instruction
1. The goal is to ensure continuity of learning that is aligned to the most critical standards.
2. Students will have live, synchronous instruction (2.5 hrs or more) for their core content only, including ELA, Math, Science, and SS.
3. Teachers will provide 2.5 hrs of asynchronous (learning happening at individual student pace and time. Students will not be online with teachers, but will work independently) learning and other schoolwork.
4. Students will share their work through either SeeSaw or Google Classroom (grade level dependent).
5. Case managers will coordinate and communicate service delivery for students who receive special education and related services.
6. Additional services (such as English Learner services or interventions) may be delivered as a student schedule permits; this will be communicated by teachers.
Schedules
1. Preschool will provide 45 minutes of activities for students to complete.
2. Salt Creek and Stella May Swartz will provide 2.5 hrs of Livestream from 8:00-11:00 for core content. This will include two 15 minute breaks for the students. In addition, specials and other schoolwork will be asynchronous. Students can participate in this asynchronous work at any time for the remainder of their day.
3. Albright Middle School will follow its regular schedule. Core content will be synchronous. Specials and other schoolwork will be asynchronous.
Students can participate in this asynchronous work at any time for the remainder of their day. The student plan is the next document and should be shared with your child during an inclement weather day.
Sincerely,
Gerrie Aulisa
ON-SITE VOLUNTARY TESTING FOR STUDENTS AND STAFF
Dear Salt Creek School District 48 Families,
District 48 is pleased to add on-site, weekly RT-PCR COVID-19 testing to our layered mitigations for our students and staff. We are still working on finalizing the testing schedule, but we expect to have that information to begin offering screening testing very soon.
All COVID-19 testing is voluntary, and only individuals who have provided consent to participate will be eligible to test. While fully vaccinated individuals are exempt from routine screening testing per CDC recommendations, anyone who provides consent may participate in the testing program. Providing consent does not require any individual to participate. For example, parents of a fully vaccinated student may choose to provide consent to participate now but can have the student refrain from participating in weekly testing. That student can still test in the event of a close contact, outbreak, or symptom later on because they have provided consent. Students who do not have a signed consent on file will not be eligible for testing at school.
Registration is now open to sign up to participate:
For Albright Middle School, click here to register.
For Salt Creek Primary School, click here to register.
For Stella May Swartz Elementary School, click here to register.
Once a student is tested, regardless of the outcome, the results are reported to the school and to the parent/guardian. Additionally, test results are required to be reported to the Illinois Department of Public Health. If a student tests positive, then we collaborate in our contact tracing efforts with the DuPage County Health Department. For positive test results, you will receive both a phone call and an email from Northshore Clinical with the results. For negative test results, then you will receive only an email. Results are typically received within 24 hours.
Testing is provided at no cost to participants or District 48. COVID-19 testing is covered 100% by all insurance companies with no deductible, co-pays, coinsurance, or any other out-of-pocket expense. For individuals without insurance, the cost is covered by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
The testing will either be an anterior nares swab (it goes less than 3/4 inch into the nose) or buccal (cheek) swab. In either test, this is not the nasopharyngeal swab that goes deep into the nasal cavity.
COVID CARD UPDATES
It is important to have proof of your student’s COVID-19 vaccination on file for contact tracing purposes. For example, if your student is identified as a close contact in a positive COVID-19 case, but they are vaccinated and remain asymptomatic, they will be cleared to remain in school. This also applies to situations where the student’s sibling exhibits possible COVID-19 symptoms: if your student without symptoms is vaccinated and remains asymptomatic, they may remain in school. If your student’s vaccination status is not documented in their file, we will assume they are not vaccinated and follow the IDPH COVID-19 Protocol accordingly.
If your student has completed their COVID-19 vaccination, please email a copy of the card to the School Nurse or upload the vaccination into Skyward using the instructions below.

Thank you to those who sent in gift cards or donated to FTC Cares online. Your support helped many families this holiday season.
The Cotterill Family Fund
It is with great sadness to report that Julie Cotterill, a long-time FTC event volunteer and member of our District 48 family, has passed. Julie has a son, Joseph, who is in 8th grade and a daughter, Alexis, who graduated from District 48 and is a junior at Willowbrook. To help offset some of the many expenses the family is incurring right now, FTC has set up a special fund through our FTC Cares program. Money donated to this fund will be given directly to the Cotterill family. Donations are being accepted via the FTC website donation form found here. Please contact Julie Tobias (jtobias@saltcreek48.org) for more information.

AmazonSmile
Do you shop at Amazon a lot? Did you know they offer a small percentage of eligible orders to be donated to a charity of your choice? FTC is a charity that can receive donations if account holders set it up to do so! All you have to do is shop as you normally would. If any of the items are eligible for AmazonSmile donations, FTC will receive the money that is paid out a few times per year. Even better? All of the money in turn supports our schools and children. It's a win win!
To get started from the app, go to the main menu and tap on the 'settings' icon (≡). Go to the Programs and Features heading and tap the V See all. Scroll down and tap AmazonSmile. There you will be able to search for Salt Creek School District 48 Families Teachers Children in Villa Park, IL. If you are using the website, start your shopping at smile.amazon.com. You will be prompted to add a charity. It's that easy! It may seem that .5% of your purchase is not a lot, but you would be surprised to see how quickly it adds up when we work together to support our great district. Thanks for helping!!
