Our Learning Community...
Thank you for helping us celebrate Literacy Week and for joining us at our Literacy/STEAM Family Workshop. We loved sharing our learning with all of you and opening our classrooms so families could see the creativity, curiosity, and critical thinking happening across our school. Watching students explore literacy through science, technology, engineering, the arts, and math was truly inspiring and it meant so much to see so many of you learning alongside your children. We were also proud to highlight how our school is one of just seven schools participating in the Operation QUEST grant. This opportunity helps us expand innovative learning experiences that integrate literacy with STEAM and provide students with engaging, real-world learning opportunities.
We hope you will join us again this Thursday to cheer on our students during the APEX Jog-A-Thon! Your encouragement from the sidelines means so much to our runners and helps make the event exciting and memorable for everyone.

APEX Jog-A-Thon Supports our Jones PTA...
Our APEX Jog-A-Thon fundraiser is an important way we support the incredible work of our Jones PTA and we are so grateful for your support. Last year was our first year partnering with APEX and it resulted in a record amount of donations that has had a meaningful impact on our learning community both at the end of last year and throughout this school year. Because of that success, the PTA was able to purchase...
- Lakeshore Learning gift cards for teachers so they could immediately buy special classroom materials for students. The funds also allowed the PTA to increase teacher stipends for this year, resources teachers can use to go above and beyond the core materials provided for their classrooms.
- PTA support has also continued to fund Scholastic News magazine for students, bringing current events and timely informational topics into classrooms through engaging, colorful publications that students use both at school and at home.
- In addition, the PTA funded buses for field trips for every grade level. Many trips have already taken place and the rest are scheduled throughout the year. If your child’s class has not gone yet, don’t worry, your teacher will share those details as the date gets closer. Thanks to the additional funds from last year’s APEX Jog-A-Thon, the PTA has been able to support even further. For example, for the 4th grade field trip to Old Town, the PTA helped cover the cost of the docent-led educational experience for every student in addition to transportation.
- Not only does our PTA make field experiences happen for our students, they also bring experiences on site like the Science Guys assemblies!
- The PTA has continued to enhance arts education for our students by funding the art studio and cycles of classroom art lessons with Mrs. Schwartz and Mrs. Noble.
- This year funds have also supported hiring substitute teachers to provide our teaching staff with additional release time for collaborative math planning with our new Eureka Curriculum.
- Also new this year was the launch of the Student Grant Projects, elevating student leadership and voice by funding student driven projects that make a difference on our campus.
- And of course, PTA funding helps create special community experiences like the Fall Festival and our recent Family Dance, events that are free and open for all families to enjoy!
Any type of fundraiser we do as a school community takes a lot of work behind the scenes and we are very fortunate to have PTA volunteers that make it happen! Partnering with APEX is one way we can ease the work load for our team, while still generating significant funds that add value to our learning community. It's a win - win! We are incredibly grateful for any donations you have made or information you have shared with family and friends. Your support truly makes a difference and helps create enriching opportunities for our students and our entire Jones community!

Highlights From Last Week...
Today’s math classrooms focus on helping students understand why math works, not just how to follow steps. When students understand the concepts behind math, they are better able to solve new and challenging problems.
Students often solve the same problem in different ways. Learning multiple strategies helps students develop flexibility in thinking and stronger problem-solving skills.
Math time is filled with talk! We hear students explaining their thinking and discussing solutions with classmates. Talking about math helps students build reasoning skills and understand ideas more deeply.

Women's History
Did you know that just 15 minutes of reading each day can make a world of difference in your child’s learning journey? Whether you are reading to your child, reading together, or listening to them read aloud, it all counts and it all matters!
Reading at home builds more than just literacy skills. It strengthens vocabulary, improves comprehension, and develops a lifelong love of learning. In fact, children who are read to daily are exposed to 1.4 million more words by the time they start school than children who are not. That kind of language exposure lays a strong foundation for both academic success and confident communication.
Just as importantly, books also help children grow socially by allowing them to step into other people’s experiences, see the world from different perspectives and practice empathy and kindness. Stories have the power to spark cultural awareness, build understanding and nurture the skills that help our students become not only successful learners, but also compassionate human beings.
Here are a few ways to make reading a special part of your routine:
-
Choose a cozy time and space to read together
-
Let your child pick the book (even if it’s the same one again!)
-
Ask questions about the story to boost comprehension
-
Model a love for reading by enjoying your own book nearby
The best part, your family has access to an endless amount of books through the internet and the Public Library. Looking for something new to read? Check out the links below for inspiration...
