SHOWCASE
Colorado Student Count Day
Dear Families,
As we move into the fall, we want to highlight a critical date for our district: Thursday, October 1, 2026. Student count day is the official date each fall when Colorado school districts record their enrollment numbers, which the state then uses to calculate per-pupil funding for the year.
The state determines our funding based on three factors around this date: your student's active enrollment, their scheduled instructional time, and their daily attendance. To ensure our funding is accurate, the state evaluates attendance specifically on October 1st and during the standard two-week window encompassing the week before and the week after Count Day.
How you can help support our schools:
Make Attendance a Priority: Please make every effort to ensure your student is present and engaged in their learning on Thursday, October 1st.
Keep the Momentum: Consistent attendance throughout the entire two-week window surrounding Count Day is strongly encouraged to ensure accurate state reporting.
Communicate Absences: We understand illnesses and emergencies happen. If your child is sick, please notify our attendance office right away. Proper documentation allows us to navigate state exceptions if a student must miss the exact count date.
DCMI World
Hey Huskies!
Marching Band is hosting a competition October 3 and we need help to run it! DCMI brings in bands from all over the metro area and it is the biggest fundraiser of the year for the DC Marching Band. It's an all day event with merch, concessions, and some amazing musicians! Any students who want to volunteer should fill out this interest form, parents and family members can use the adult sign-up form. Thank you so much for helping us make this a success!!
JROTC
JROTC will host a meet and greet with Colorado's "High School to Flight School" recruiter. He will discuss the program and how to apply. He will be here on 25 Sep 2026, in the JROTC classroom 65S, during both lunch periods. All are welcome to attend.
Staff and Parents!
Please encourage your students to enter our annual "Battle of the Books" competition.
It's a fun way to meet new friends, read together, and compete.
They can email Matt Adams (madams5@dcsdk12.org) to join or ask questions, and they can start picking books for the battle here!

Getting Groovy
Friday night lights are great, but the real magic starts long before game day—right here in the band room! 🥁🎺
Behind every high-energy performance under the stadium lights are endless hours of practice, repetition, and hustle. Huge shoutout to Mr. Sal Hernandez for his relentless dedication and leadership, and to the entire DCHS Band for putting in the work day in and day out.
The incredible energy you brought to Friday night's game started right here. Thank you for setting the tempo for our whole school!
Smart Cookies
In Ms. Karen Borgsmiller’s Algebra II class, IB learning comes to life as students transform real-world scenarios into functional data! Linear equations and complex functions take on real meaning as students read scenario-based prompts, model relationships, and interpret data through graphing.
By analyzing these real-world contexts, students embody key IB Learner Profile acting as analytical Thinkers, probing deeper patterns as Inquirers, and communicating abstract mathematical concepts with precision.
