WHS Student Council Donates to The Salvation Army
The student council did their annual food drive and collected nearly 800 non-perishable food items again this year. Thank you to the Ishpeming Salvation Army staff for being such great partners in serving our community!
Westwood English Teacher Presents at National Conference
The National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) brings together more than 8,000 English teachers each year in a different U.S. city to engage with keynote speakers, learn from one another in breakout sessions, and connect with authors through book signings.
This year, Dr. Kel Sassi of Northern Michigan University was selected as a recipient of the Julia Berry Award and Mrs. Anderson, an English Teacher at Westwood, had the honor of attending the conference as a co-presenter, speaking on versatility and resilience in rural schools, with Dr. Kia Richmond serving as their moderator.
Mrs. Anderson also had the opportunity to moderate an author session at ALAN—the Assembly on Literature for Adolescents—where she introduced three YA authors and lead a conversation about their books.
Congratulations Mrs. Anderson and thank you for representing WHS at such a prestigious event!

Student Handbook
We encourage both parents and students to read the student handbook carefully. It provides important information about school expectations, rules, and available resources, helping everyone understand their rights, responsibilities, and how to create a safe, respectful, and successful learning environment together.
