Jefferson Elementary and Hawthorne High School Celebrate Reading Pep Rally

Jefferson School’s was bursting with school spirit today! The HHS Cheerleaders stopped by to perform an amazing pep rally and get our students pumped for our “Miles to Milan Olympics Reading Challenge!” From cheers to big smiles, our readers are ready to race through books and log those miles. Let the reading games begin!

Thank you to the HHS Cheerleaders for bringing the energy and helping us kick off Celebrate Reading in the most spirited way! The pep rally began with the Parade of Books. Each class proudly marched in with a flag representing one of their favorite books while the crowd cheered them on.Just like the Olympic Parade of Nations, where athletes enter the stadium led by their country’s flag, our young readers proudly carried their book flags to celebrate the stories that inspire them.

Read Across America Author Visit: Karyn Parsons

The LMS PTO recently invited author and actress Karyn Parsons to our school community. Best known for her role as Hilary Banks on the popular 1990s television show The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Ms. Parsons brought a unique blend of literary insight and personal experience to her visit.

Prior to the schoolwide assembly, members of the LMS News Team and Literary Magazine had the exciting opportunity to interview Ms. Parsons. Students asked thoughtful questions about her novels, her journey to becoming an author, and her experiences in both the literary and entertainment worlds.

During the assembly, students across all grade levels were engaged and inspired by Ms. Parsons’ story. She shared highlights from her journey as a writer and offered an inside look at her novel How High the Moon, which is inspired by her mother’s childhood in the Jim Crow South.

Lincoln Middle School is extremely grateful to the LMS PTO for arranging such an amazing experience for our student body. The visit was a memorable opportunity that left students motivated to explore their own creativity and storytelling.

Most importantly, a great time was had by all, making it a memorable event for students, families, and staff alike.

AP Biology Students Scrub In for Live Kidney Transplant

HHS AP Biology Teacher, Mr. Zaolino shared, "Last week, thanks to the coordination of Mrs. Carol Denise, Enrichment Coordinator, students in AP Biology class had the unique opportunity to witness medicine in action through the Liberty Science Center’s Live Surgical Program. Connected via video teleconference to Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center, the class watched in real-time as the expert Renal Transplant team performed a living-donor kidney transplant. This incredible, front-row look at human anatomy and complex surgical procedures went far beyond the textbook. As the operation unfolded, students were able to engage in a live Q&A directly with the surgical team, asking their own questions about the procedure, the underlying biology, and careers in medicine right as the surgery was happening on screen."
