Hadley Orchestra Holiday Concert

Congratulations to all of the Hadley Orchestra students who performed at the Winter Orchestra Concert on December 5. The 6th Grade Orchestra performed classical selections with "Jingle Bells" as the finale. The mystery guest artist that performed the sleigh bells was Santa! Later the 7th and 8th Grade Orchestra also performed a selection of classical pieces including a rock tune. The concert concluded with 7th & 8th grade orchestra performing "Holiday on the Housetop," with Santa performing and adding some holiday humor, keeping the audience captivated and laughing.

At the end of the performance, Santa took photos with children and families in the D41 community! Thank you for all of the wonderful support from our D41 administration including Dr. Jeff McHugh, Mr. Steve Diveley, Mr. Bob Guzzetti, Mrs. Angelica Love, D41 School Board, Hadley faculty, orchestra parents & students! It was a wonderful performance observed by a full house with standing room only in the Hadley Auditorium. Congratulations, Hadley Orchestra students!

What’s good about being and playing outside in winter?

Healthy Tips from Kathryn Dibadj, PEL-CSN

Winter outdoor play offers some unique health benefits that are important for

children’s health and development, particularly when they’re dressed appropriately for the weather.

1. Immune Function and Outdoor Play

Regular exposure to outdoor elements, including cold weather, helps strengthen immune responses, and helps maintain healthy levels of vitamin D, which is crucial for immune function.

2. Better Sleep

Outdoor play, especially when it involves physical exertion in natural light (even in winter), positively impacts sleep onset, sleep duration, and sleep quality in children.

3. Physical Fitness

Playing in cold weather encourages higher levels of physical exertion, which strengthens the heart and lungs, while also reducing the risk of childhood obesity.

4. Mental Health

Even in the winter, outdoor play helps reduce anxiety and depression in children. Physical activity and exposure to natural environments improve mood and emotional resilience.

5. Proper Clothing for Winter Play

Dressing Children for Cold-Weather Outdoor Activities: includes layering, moisture-wicking fabrics, and proper protection for extremities to ensure safety and comfort.

Playing outside in cold weather can be highly beneficial for children who are dressed

appropriately, offering a variety of physical, mental, and emotional health

advantages. Engaging in outdoor activities during winter promotes essential physical

development by enhancing coordination, muscle strength, and cardiovascular health,

while also supporting the immune system which protects against common illnesses.

So go ahead and get outside this winter!
