Families will have opportunities to provide their input and feedback on this process throughout the year to ensure collaboration
Immigration Law Update
The California Department of Education and LGSD are committed to supporting rigorous and safe learning environments, and we believe that immigrant families are full, vital members of our school communities. One in two children in California have at least one parent who is an immigrant, one in five children in California have parents whose immigration statuses differ from each other, and 93 percent of the children in mixed-status families are U.S. citizens. Our diversity is a strength.
California law now specifically prohibits school officials and employees of a district from providing an officer or employee of an agency conducting immigration enforcement with access to a nonpublic area of a school site for any purpose without being presented with a valid judicial warrant, judicial subpoena, a court order, or unless required by state or federal law. This new CA law is consistent with current district policy and all site offices have been trained accordingly.
Additionally, the new law requires communication to students, families, staff, and other school community members if an immigration enforcement agent is present on a school site. To date, we have had no immigration action at or near any LGSD school sites and are committed to keeping families informed if that were to occur.
DELAC Meeting Highlights – October 7
At our October 7th DELAC meeting, families learned about key district updates and future goals. We discussed planning for the next Strategic Plan, reviewed DELAC bylaws, and elected new officers.
We also reviewed CAASPP results for multilingual learners, which showed growth in English Language Arts and a slight decline in Math. The group examined ELPAC data and celebrated a major milestone — our reclassification rate nearly tripled! Families also reviewed the reclassification criteria to better understand the process.
Additional highlights included a focus on strong attendance, positive behavior supports, family engagement, and increased student opportunities such as clubs and school-spirit events.
Join us for our next meeting:
November 4th at 4:30 p.m. in the Palm PD Room.
We look forward to seeing you there!

Staff Highlight
Alyssa Navapanich: AMPS Art Teacher
Come learn from Lemon Grove’s award-winning art teacher! Alyssa Navapanich currently teaches art at four campuses in the Lemon Grove School District. Her advocacy for students has given them opportunities as panel speakers, art docents, and award winners at both local and state levels.
Since 2014, she has volunteered with the California and National Arts Education Associations where she has shared classroom expertise at local, state, and national conferences. She has helped locally with organizing, advertising, and installing student art shows and educational workshops. She has received local, state, and national awards in recognition for her contributions to arts education. Come to the Lee House on November 6th.
