Dear HES Caregivers,

What a wonderful week it has been at HES!

On Tuesday morning, our enthusiastic 4th-grade ambassadors led the school in a heartwarming Kindness Assembly. With the support of Ms. Branchut’s class, Ms. Riley guided us in singing the HES school song, while students from our American Sign Language Club showcased their growing skills. Ms. Piknick’s class got everyone up on their feet with the lively “Wave of Kindness” song—what a joy it was to see the entire school joining in!

The ambassadors' presentations were creative and inspiring, featuring a skit, a newscast, a ChatterPix video, and even a student-written and performed song—complete with vocals and guitar. To further reinforce the theme of kindness, we shared the beautiful story The Kindest Red: A Story of Hijab and Friendship by Ibtihaj Muhammad.

Today, our Sharks continued to spread kindness with heartfelt cards, thoughtful notes, and plenty of love. Though we will miss each other over the break, we look forward to reuniting on Monday, February 24 with renewed energy and excitement.

Wishing you all a restful, healthy, and fun vacation!

All my best,
Christie

Dear Caregivers,

It’s hard to believe, but your school nurses are already preparing for next school year! If you have a current 4th-grade student moving to middle school in the fall, please note that a physical exam is required and must be on file with the nurse’s office. The exam must have been completed within the past year (August 2024 or later).

Additionally, middle school students who participate in after-school sports need a new physical exam each school year. To make this process easier, we kindly ask that you request a copy of your child’s exam during their annual visit and have it faxed directly to us at 1-508-744-6387. If your child has already had their yearly exam, you can reach out to your pediatrician’s office to send us a copy. This will help ensure a smooth transition to middle school.

It has been a busy time in the health office with flu and other illnesses going around. We hope this upcoming break gives everyone a chance to rest, recharge, and return healthy and ready to learn.

Wishing you all a happy and healthy February vacation!

Per the handbook, if your child is unable to attend school, please enter the absence in PickUp Patrol and/or call our designated attendance line, 617-848-0115, as early as possible. Soon after arrival, our office staff begins to call the caregivers of absent students if we haven't already heard from them. This is important, as we want to ensure that all students are safe. Your phone message with the reason for the absence is all we need. While an email to the teacher is helpful, it sometimes doesn't make its way to the office staff. Thank you for your help!
