A Trip Down Goshen Lane
Issue 10: October 9, 2026
Principal's Message
Hello, Families,
This week we had our first monthly Town Hall of the year where we celebrated students who earned the monthly PRIDE award for their class for showing "I will make POSITIVE choices" in the months of August and September. Congratulations! Music with Mr. Downing, music teacher, was incorporated to review our PRIDE themes. We kicked off October's R - Respect as 5th graders from the new PRIDE squad showcased their acting skills in a skit about what "respecting myself and my community" looks like in the cafeteria. Thanks goes to Mrs. Diol, school counselor, for starting the PRIDE squad and new leadership opportunities for 5th graders!
Conference Night #2 is this Thursday, Oct. 15th. If you couldn't make it Oct. 8th, it's not too late! Please reach out to your child's teacher or access the sign-up link to reserve your time slot. We'd love to have 100% family attendance at conferences.
With PRIDE!

School Counselor's Message from Mrs. Diol
Hello!
During October I will be providing a lesson in all of our classrooms around the topic of bullying. Our 2nd-5th graders will be learning the differences between a conflict, a mean moment, and bullying. In kindergarten and first grade we will discuss how to be a good friend and how to use words to stick up for themselves and others.
Please see the attached graphic from NCH that contains tips for talking to your child about bullying. As always, if there is anything I can do to help your child please reach out anytime!

Related Arts with Mr. Downing in the Music Room
In music class, we continue our celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month through mid-October. While many popular musical traditions have origins in Mexico, some grade levels have also been able to travel through song to Spain, Guatemala, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Venezuela, Colombia, Peru, Bolivia, or Argentina.
Many of the songs and games we’ve used have been excellent chances to practice the ideas of beat and rhythm. Many people use those words equally, but there is a subtle difference. If you aren’t sure, ask your student in grades 1-5, and they should be able to tell and show you the difference!
Questions to ask your student:
What is the difference between beat and rhythm?
Which Spanish language words, games, or songs can you remember, from what country?
How are you able to show Goshen Lane PRIDE in related arts classes?
Fall Parties
Classroom fall parties are at the end of the day Friday, October 30th. Please see your child's teacher's communication for your party details.
Information for All Goshen Lane Students:
- To ensure a fun and safe day for everyone, please help your child follow these school-wide Costume Guidelines:
- Wearing a costume is optional. Students who choose to wear a costume should already be dressed in costume when they come to school.
- Costumes must be school-appropriate — nothing scary/gory, no weapon-like props, and modest coverage of the body.
- Pieces/Accessories like hats should come to school in a book bag and can be worn during the party.
- No face paint
- Staff will monitor costumes, and adjustments will may be made if necessary.
3rd Grade State Testing
Our 3rd graders will take their state reading test on Tuesday, October 27 and Wednesday, October 28. We are so proud of how hard our students have been working to get ready!
Here are a few ways you can help your child do their best:
Make sure they get a good night’s sleep before each testing day.
Eat a healthy breakfast each morning.
Arrive to school on time so they can start the day calmly.
Offer encouragement and confidence—remind them to take their time and do their best!
We know our 3rd graders will shine! 🌟
End of Day Car Pick Up
Car pick up is always a busy time. Our goal is for all students to be picked up and the car line to be finished by 2:55. Some ways families can help:
- Please be at school prior to 2:55.
- Please have your car placard number hanging from your mirror. This helps the duty teacher on the microphone be able to call your child's number in the gym even when the car is still a good distance away. Then, your child has time to walk out of the gym before you pull up.
- If your child has a number but you no longer have your placard, please let a duty teacher know and we will give you a piece of paper with your child's number on it. Please plan to hold up that paper or place it on your dashboard when arriving.
- If you do not have a number but are a frequent car pick up, please let the duty teacher know and we will assign your child a number and provide you with a placard number for your car.
- Please ask your child what their car number is. If they do not know, please practice at home.
Thanks so much for your partnership in helping decrease the wait time at car pick up.
