Hello CELC & MVLA Families,

March 20th marks the first day of Spring! Can you believe it? I hope you have great weekend! My husband has been very busy at work (March Madness), so it has been just me and my daughter most of the week and weekend. Both of us are under the weather and spent time trying to relax and rest. We actually sat and watched an entire movie on the couch Friday night! Our Saturday softball games were canceled due to the rain.

This week was filled with "green" activities, a little mischievous leprechaun fun, and more. Mrs. Irick's class gave me a lesson on Orton Gillingham (OG). Ask your kindergartener about CUPS, digraphs, and red words. They taught me so much and I really enjoyed leading the lesson. We had our 3rd Spirit Assembly on Friday. Students were recognized for academic achievement or citizenship. Our Cubs are SAFE, RESPONSIBLE, and RESPECTFUL.

Thank you to those that stopped by Kona Ice to grab a treat on Friday. A percentage of the sales goes to the PTA to help fund programs and other student/teacher needs for the classroom. The line was pretty long! It was well worth the wait for me to get my favorite flavors! They will be back for the Spring Fling and other scheduled dates.

CELC is looking forward to our upcoming Book Fair and Open House. We are also gearing up for our annual Spring Fling. Please let us know if you are willing to help out with Spring Fling or the Book Fair. Contact Stephanie Green if you can help us out at 619-659-8250.

Important Updates and Information:

Does your student eat breakfast at school? If so, please make sure that they get to school at 8:45 am to have enough time to finish eating. Students need to be in class ready to learn by 9:05 am.
Morning gates open at 8:45 am daily for CELC students. Our fee-based preschool and ESS families have different schedules and are buzzed in prior to the 8:45 am time.
Afternoon gates open at 2:40 pm (M/T/TH/F) and 1:30 pm (W) The official release time is 2:50 pm (M/T/TH/F) and 1:35 pm (W).
Mark your calendars for CELC's Open House on March 31st.
Call Mary Barkley, our Office Clerk, if you have any questions about contract work. Completing work clears your child's attendance and keeps them caught up.
Part 1 of Kindergarten registration for the 2022-23 school year is open. Please contact the office for information. Dual language spaces are limited. Please let friends and family know to register ASAP to ensure a spot.
Please make sure that you send your student to school with a Chromebook (fully charged) and a water bottle daily.
As a reminder, CELC official start time is 9:05 am. Students are not considered late until 9:06 am. Please check into the office for a late slip to ensure that your child is not marked absent.
The sliding gate closes on or before 9:05 am. All late arrivals must go through the front gate and sign in at the office.
Our next district-wide kindness dress up day is April 20th. "Kindness Rocks"- dress like a rock star of wear your favorite band shirt.

CUBS IN THE COMMUNITY

The Cubs in the Community tradition continues this school year. Mrs. RIpke's goal is to connect with 100 Cubs (Future, Former, or Current) by the 100th day of school. Building relationships with our students is important to us! If you see Mrs. Ripke out in the community, encourage your student to say hi. Not only does it create an opportunity to connect, it also supports students' language and communication skills. Follow the sightings on our FB page. Volunteers Wanted

Please contact Stephanie Green in the office if you have any questions about PTA and any other volunteer opportunities.If you haven't already, please make sure all paperwork is completed and turned in. This includes an up-to-date TB test, the volunteer form, and proof of the COVID-19 vaccination. Persons not vaccinated are required to show a negative PCR COVID-19 test within the previous 7 days of your volunteer day. Please check with your child's teacher for any opportunities coming up. The office could utilize volunteers as well. Let us know if you like to organize!

We have a need for adult volunteers to help clean out some spaces on campus. If anyone is willing to volunteer after school or on the weekend, please let us know.

AUSD is Hiring
