Dear Lindblom students and families,

Each week, I reflect on our school community and the various ways we are learning, growing, and adapting together. Why we do what we do is at the center of it all; student and teacher growth. We focus on CLRT, CBE, and belonging to ensure every student experiences equitable, rigorous, and meaningful learning that fosters growth, connection, and postsecondary readiness.

As we begin Quarter 2, I ask for your continued partnership in maintaining strong student attendance, engagement, and safety; both physical and emotional. Please ensure that your student arrives on time each day, participates fully in all classes and Colloquium Day activities, and adheres to school expectations. The building closes promptly at 5:00 p.m. for all students not involved in sports or after-school programs. Timely pickup supports our commitment to student safety and helps prevent after-hours incidents. We continue to follow district guidance regarding ICE agent precautions to ensure the safety and well-being of all students and families within our community.

Last but not least, please make sure you’ve set up your ASPEN parent portal account. Your parent portal account allows you to report student absences via the e-absence feature. E-absence reporting eliminates the need for last-minute phone calls or paper forms for families, streamlining the notification process. Moreover, e-absence reporting ensures our team can more easily monitor attendance trends and identify students who are at risk due to chronic absences, allowing for timely intervention and support. You can also use your parent portal account to pay student fees.

Together we rise onward & upward,

Principal Banks

Parent Teacher Conferences

In preparation of our PT Conferences taking place on October 27 from 11:00 am - 2:00 pm and 3:00 pm - 6:15 pm, we are sharing teacher's appointment links HERE. Lindblom staff will take a lunch break from 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm; however, you may pick-up your student's report card without a conference during this time. These conferences may be scheduled virtually or in-person, at your will; however, we do request that you make a commitment to be available at the time that you schedule.

The additional times that teachers have added are geared to be virtual appointments, but feel free to follow-up with the teacher if you require an in-person meeting. We understand that these schedules may not accommodate everyone, but we are open to parent meetings on any given day with advanced notice.

Student Spotlight

Congratulations to Andres Perez! Andres has been selected to participate in the Plumbers Bridge Program for CPS High School Students - a partnership between Chicago Public Schools, Plumbers’ Local 130 JAC, and HIRE360. We want to continue to uplift and support Andres in his pursuits because this is his identified post-secondary pathway.

Congratulations to Ms. Maxwell, Mx. Dirr, and their students of the Urban Wildlife Research! The Partners in Fieldwork (PIF) program is turning high schoolers into urban wildlife researchers! The impact of the program is seen with Kerry Maxwell and her students at Lindblom Math and Science Academy, who shares that her students are "getting a knowledge of the urban wildlife that’s around them. They’re gaining an appreciation for it and learning what leads to a healthy, sustainable ecosystem for both wildlife and humans. They start to appreciate more how these can work together in a city." Yay Kerry and students!

Attendance Matters

REMINDER: Students are considered tardy when they are not in their scheduled class at 8:00 am. Let's do our best to be in class on time. We are noticing many students heading to bathrooms and lockers when they arrive to school without placing any urgency to make it to class in a timely manner.

Detentions will occur from 3:15 - 4:15 on Tuesday and Thursday. If a student is late to detention, it will not count as served.

  • Students must ALWAYS have LMSA School ID on them, whether physical or electronic.

  • Students must manage their time during the passing period to ensure they make it to class on time.

    • Students who are tardy to class will need to visit the tardy scanners located on each floor to scan in and retrieve a tardy pass.

    • Students must arrive in class within three (3) minutes from the time indicated on the tardy pass.

    • Any student without a pass in the hallway after the initial hall sweep will be escorted to the nearest tardy station to receive a pass.

Music and Film Forum

Ms. Gunn will be moderating a panel of Film Scoring and Music Composition on Sat, Oct 25 at Malcolm X College from 2:30pm to 3:30pm.
