LCPS Partners with Amazon and LEF to Develop STEM Enrichment at Four Schools
LCPS has partnered with the Loudoun Education Foundation (LEF) and Amazon to provide additional hands-on STEM enrichment to students. LCPS, LEF and Amazon celebrated the launch of this partnership with a ribbon cutting of a new Think Big Corner at Potowmack Elementary School on April 29. In total, four schools -- Forest Grove, Frederick Douglass, Guilford and Potowmack elementary schools -- will receive a Think Big Corner. The “corners” are a smaller version of the Amazon Think Big Space that was launched at Simpson Middle School in Leesburg in 2022. Read more about Think Big Corners.

LCPS Week of Play: Let’s Move Together
LCPS invites families to join in celebrating the LCPS Week of Play, Monday, May 5 through Friday, May 9. The Week of Play is a fun, inclusive initiative promoting daily physical activity for students, staff, families and the community. Timed with both National Physical Fitness & Sports Month and National Physical Education & Sport Week, this special week highlights the power of movement and its impact on lifelong wellness.
Whether you're stretching before school, dancing in the kitchen, walking after dinner or trying one of our simple daily challenges, every moment of movement matters. Physical activity improves focus, boosts mood, reduces stress and strengthens connections—at home, at school and throughout life. This week, schools across the division will host playful, wellness-focused activities. Families are encouraged to join in, plan their own movement moments at home and share their experiences with us.
Ways to get involved:
Check in with your school for Week of Play activities and how families can participate
Plan a family walk, dance party or movement game each day
Follow LCPS on social media and try our daily movement challenges
Share your favorite family fitness moments using #LCPSMoves
Movement belongs to everyone. Let’s celebrate physical activity, joy and wellness—together.

Awareness Is Our Greatest Tool in Fighting Fentanyl
On Fentanyl Awareness Day, students around the division participated in activities to raise awareness about the dangers of fentanyl. At Loudoun County High School, the Sources of Strength class distributed purple beads as a reminder of the day’s significance. During first block, students watched the Real Talk about Fake Pills, a video produced by Song for Charlie that shares real stories and expert insights to help teens make safe, informed choices.
Students, families and community members are encouraged to remain vigilant about the dangers of fentanyl. Awareness of this deadly substance is one of the greatest tools available to prevent fatalities and to fight the opioid health crisis. In our schools, we are committed to raising awareness about fentanyl and other illicit drugs. Students engage in lessons and discussions regularly about the risks of drug use. LCPS schools also stock naloxone, the opioid overdose-reversing medication, and staff members in each school are trained to administer it. Families are reminded that Policy 8420, Student Medication, permits students to carry naloxone. Use of naloxone significantly reduces the risk of an overdose death and helps save lives. See LCPS’ Fentanyl and Opioid Awareness webpage for more details.
