Mrs Lori Dobrovolny~Secretary

I (Mrs D), began my time at Valley Heights in the fall of 2007. I came on board as a special education para for the first two or three years. I helped fill in for our At Risk Coordinator during my para time and then took over this position the next year. Helping students who struggled was a bit of a passion for me. I wanted and still do want to see every child succeed at school. But sometimes that outcome does not look the same for all children/students. Helping students understand and pushing them to do their best was a job I would do over again. For me it was very rewarding. Several years later I took over the secretary position at the high school and am still here today. Some jobs make you money, some jobs give you prestige, but the best thing these years at Valley Heights has given me is a work FAMILY that stands together, with Faith, Support, and Love. I wouldn't trade these "family members" for the world!

Valley Heights FFA did a FANTASTIC job at the Blue Valley Randolph Invitational Livestock Evaluation Contest!!!

A Letter from Mr. Savage

2023 TVL Volleyball Tournament Champions! The Lady Mustangs won the championship this past Saturday by playing some excellent volleyball in this always tough contest! The squad came out of pool play ranked #2 and faced off against the top seed Hanover Wildcats and came away with a win in three very exciting games. The Mustangs then faced off with the Centralia Panthers, a team that had beat them in pool play. The Lady Mustangs played with focus and energy in the finals to take home the championship. Congratulations to our squad members and to our coaches – Susan Steinfort, Jenny Yungeberg and Amy Spoonts! We have attached a 2A Sub-State Volleyball Bracket so you can see when and where our Lady Mustangs play on Saturday!

Big night out here on Friday night as we host the Smith Center Redmen for the title of District Champions! Game time is 7:00 pm and I am sure our Mustangs will enjoy all the support we can offer. Let’s pack the stands with Purple!!!

Our cross-country runners will be competing at Council Grove on Saturday for an opportunity to compete at the state meet! We want to wish them and Coach Pishny the very best as we enter this portion of the fall schedule!

We experienced something different on our Professional Development day on October 16th. In the morning we took part in Resiliency Training and we were also able to meet as a staff about students and their academic progress. Weaver Hotel then hosted a very nice lunch for staff and allowed us to tour this historic building. We then travelled to Titan Trailer, Mfg. for a tour of their facilities. Our tour guides were excellent as they walked us through the process of making a quality trailer. We would like to thank the staff at Titan Trailers for hosting an excellent event! To finish out the day, USD 498 staff teamed up to visit area businesses in both Waterville and Blue Rapids! We were able to visit with those people and express to them how much we appreciate their support of USD 498!

Grade cards for the first nine weeks were mailed out this week so be expecting them in the mail. You will also find a flyer in their inviting you to be a part of our Site Council out here at Valley Heights Jr./Sr. High School. Please consider joining us and becoming a member of our Site Council!

This just in!! Students in our FFA program had a great day at the Blue Valley-Randolph Invitational Livestock competition. Our 8th grade team finished in 2nd place in the Discovery Division. Not to be outdone our Greenhand Team placed 2nd overall as well. Our Senior Division group finished in 9th! Congratulations to our competitors for representing Valley Heights in fine fashion. Special thanks to Mrs. Gallimore for stepping up and sponsoring our students at this event in the absence of Ms. Husband! We have added some pictures of our students and their hardware in this edition of the newsletter.

Have a great week!

Mr. Savage
