Lutherville Lab Report
What's gone down & what's coming up at the leopards' lair.
May 16, 2025
Lutherville Families,
Another great week at Lutherville Lab! Students in 3rd and 4th grades worked hard on their MCAP assessments and, except for make-up testing, we are finished with MCAP for 2025. A highlight of our week was the 5th grade spring concert. Our students did an outstanding job performing for their peers on Tuesday morning and rocked it in the evening as well. It was a great display of the incredible music education that students at Lutherville receive with the orchestra performing 8 pieces, chorus 5 pieces, band 5 pieces, and steel drum band 9 pieces. Phenomenal work from our 5th graders under the leadership of Mrs. Tunison and Mrs. Vincent and with the support of the 5th grade team and 5th grade parents.
Next week, we look forward to Intermediate Sports Day on Friday. We hope the weather forecast clears for a great day. As a reminder, if we have to reschedule due to the weather, the rain date is Tuesday 5/27 (the next day of school due to the Memorial Day holiday).
On Friday, during the Sports Day Lunch break we will present Bailee and Serenity's families with remembrances and our school plan for a memorial. We would like to invite students who were close to them to be opted-into the event by permission of their parents. If your child was close to the girls and you would like them to attend, please complete this form to let us know.
Wishing all our families a safe and lovely weekend.
In partnership,
-Mr. McComb

Memorial for Bailee and Serenity
A team of staff close to Bailee and Serenity has determined a plan to honor the girls here at school. We will be purchasing two memorial bells to install in the Learning Garden - one in the shape of a butterfly and one in the shape of a flower. We will order them in turquoise and indigo as pictured, which align their beloved character Stitch. We'll pair the bells with a plaque and present the intended memorial, gifts, and remembrances to the families during the lunch break on Intermediate Sports Day, May 23rd.
The bells are all-weather and built to last, which also means they're quite costly and the plan comes in at ~$4000.00. As a school we are able to absorb most of that cost, but need and would appreciate support from the community from those who are able and would like to contribute. To offer more options in donations, the PTA is collecting the funds, which can be donated as a check make out to "Lutherville Lab PTA" or cash in an envelope with "Memorial" on it turned into the PTA box in the office, or online through the PTA Givebacks site (please note there is a small proportional fee that accompanies the online option).
We look forward to offering this opportunity to celebrate the girls to their families, peace and closure to our students, and remembrance of their bright and cheerful spirits to future Lutherville students through the memorial in the garden for years to come.
Our K-4th grade students loved hearing their schoolmates perform.
May Counseling Lessons
Dear Parents and Guardians,
As part of our School Counseling Program, your child’s class will have the opportunity to engage in monthly counseling lessons throughout the school year. In the month of May, the theme for students in grades PreK - 4 is mindfulness. This important skill helps children by improving their focus, emotional regulation, and overall well-being. By practicing mindfulness—such as deep breathing or paying attention to their senses—students learn to manage stress, reduce anxiety, and stay present in the moment.
Students in grade 5 will focus on the transition to middle school. Preparing for the transition is crucial for their confidence and academic success. This shift brings new challenges, such as changing classes, increased academic expectations, and greater independence. Providing guidance and reassurance reduces anxiety, fosters resilience, and sets students up for a positive middle school experience.
Pre-Kindergarten: B is for Breathe by Melissa Monro Boyd

The goal of the monthly core curriculum counseling lessons is to help promote the social emotional, academic, and career development of our students. Please feel free to contact me with any questions about the program. I can be reached via phone at 443-809-7835 or via email at ikiewe@bcps.org.
