KODIAK CHARACTER TRAIT KINDNESS
Kindness: Acting with understanding, generosity and care
Overview
Our world needs more Kindness! Thatâs why Kindness is how we are starting the school year. Our definition of Kindness is acting with understanding, generosity, and care. Youâll hear a lot about Kindness this year because it is also 1 of our 3 outcomes:
Be Kind: Teaching social skills like listening, friendship, solving conflicts, and leadership. These skills are taught alongside Empathy, Respect, & Cooperation
Be Strong: Skills that help students focus, stay organized, and set goals. These skills are taught alongside Responsibility, Courage, & Perseverance
Be Well: Skills that help students handle their emotions and deal with stress. These skills are taught alongside Gratitude, Honesty, & Creativity
Questions to engage with your child with this work.
What does Kindness mean to you?
What is something Kind you did for someone else today?
IN THE CLASSROOMS THIS MONTH
This month we will be diving into our new year's themes, topics, and units. We will also be spending a lot of time in classrooms building relationships with classmates and teachers. We have also been creating classroom expectations and building a positive environment together. We are continually teaching and reminding them of what it means to be a Kodiak. We are covering rules in shared spaces as well. Shared areas include the hallways, bathrooms, cafeteria, and playground. A question you could ask your child is, "How are the expectations and rules different in the _________ (bathroom, hallway, cafeteria, playground)? We will continue to work on these expectations as the year progresses. Make sure to check out the student planner. It should be coming home every day.

Thinking About Volunteering Your Time to Help Out?
Volunteers play an important role in supporting our school community in classrooms, on campus, and during field trips and outings. To help protect our students, all volunteers must complete required paperwork and comply with school policies.
Applications must be completed at least 48 hours prior to the first volunteer assignment.
District Volunteer FormSTUDENT ATTENDANCE IS IMPORTANT
Showing up to school every day makes a big difference. When kids are in class, theyâre learning new skills, building friendships, and staying connected to their teachers and school community. Missing just two days of school a month - whether excused or not - can add up quickly and make it harder to keep up in reading, lead to academic struggles, and even increase the risk of not graduating later on. We also know there are times when kids arenât feeling well, and thatâs when itâs important to make the right call.
