Think First and Stay Safe Presentations!
This week students participated in Think First & Stay Safe presentations. The Think First & Stay Safe program taught students the importance of treating themselves and others with kindness and respect, setting behavioral expectations and helping youngsters recognize inappropriate and unsafe behaviors. Students were continually reassured that most people are kind and safe to be counted upon, should the need for help arise. Students learned how to set personal boundaries, identify Trusted Adults and recognize their instincts at work. Research shows youngsters whose parents support such education are much less likely to be bullied, abused or otherwise mistreated.
There are 7 Cornerstone Lesson Concepts that were presented in an age-appropriate manner: (1) Using Our Built-in Computers (2) People are Like the Weather (3) Child Luring: Treat it Like a Fire Drill (4) Laws Help Protect Me: Kids Have Rights too! (5) Listening to Our Instincts (6) Choosing Safe Strangers and (7) My Dignity: Safe & Healthy Boundaries.
The Think First & Stay Safe program provided a balanced perspective that keeps students engaged in learning vital safety strategies, aligns with recommendations set forth by NCMEC's guidelines for personal safety programs, National Health Education Standards, and has been approved by the Indiana Department of Education. Brickie Fun!
Our Choir Debut!
We have procedures in place to ensure everyone's safety. When visiting the office, you must have a state ID or driver's license along with an appointment. Visitors are always to report to door 1. We also have a drop off table in our main vestibule if there should be a need to drop something off for your child.
Students need a set plan as to how they go home. Please send a note to the office in the event that you are changing their dismissal.
Please remember to check your child's backpack daily. No matter how old they are, it is important you are checking what is being sent home each day. Assignments are posted in Canvas daily.
Please dress your child for the weather. We try to take students outside for recess daily.
Listen for our Wednesday Notable that will go out every week at 5:00 pm and watch for text messages from the program Remind. We will remind you of events, share news, and give you information to help your child be more successful at school.
This includes bringing their charged Chromebook each day. Students need a pair of headphones to keep at school. Please send headphones if you haven't already done so.
Students in grades 3-5 need electronic permission to participate in the Dunes Learning Center Canoe Trip. Please visit https://duneslearningcenter.org/canoe to complete your child's permission form.
Brickie Fridays!
